Orcish Bowmasters & One Ring Nerf + Alchemy: Eldraine Set Review

Edit: I realized I missed Paths of Tuinvale in the set review so adding my thoughts on it here instead. The perpetual cost reduction is interesting since that's a very powerful effect alongside cards like Ominous Traveler like we've seen in the past but we don't have any payoffs like that in Alchemy currently, and using it as a combo piece in Historic seems very clunky to me. The ability to reuse flash creatures is appealing particularly in mono blue or simic decks that don't have much 'hard' removal and would want bounce effects anyway so that's the home I think it's mostly likely to slot into, although you would need a reasonably high creature count.

Just going over my thoughts on the new rebalance to Bowmasters and The One Ring which is likely to have a huge impact in both Historic and Alchemy, as well as a review of all the new Alchemy: Eldraine cards going over their potential homes and applications in both formats. Let me know in the comments what you think about the rebalances, the new Alchemy set, and any potential applications I might have missed with the new cards.

I am still annoyed to lose my wildcards from Bowmasters, but I'm glad the meta will be opened up so much again. I do think some changes were needed, but I really wish they compensated players for nerfs like other games do.

Something interesting with high fae prankster, you can swap vesperlark’s power and toughness and it will return itself from the graveyard

Bowmasters should have lost Flash and kept its ETB, or had a "triggers once per turn" condition added. Those would have been much better compromises.

I'm very pumped for card draw to be a thing in Alchemy again. There are a ton of cards that didn't work because of the must-run nature of Bowmasters.

I'm pretty interested in trying faerie decks again just because Faerie Mastermind will be playable, and I think having a little more top end gas will help.

I think all they had to do with the one ring was make the damage you take something you can't get rid of and when you play a new ring it doesn't reset but continue. My way of thinking of how this could work would be like 6 mana Chandra emblem. You get an emblem that says you take one damage at the start of you turn, you tap again you get another one, and then if you over do it you die. That would make is much fairer and have an actual downside.

I feel like Wizards DESTROYS cards everytime they nerf them.
I think nerfing Crucias to 3/2 would have made it just the right strenght because it took cut down and you could still trade with the old bowmie.
Bowmasters goes from the ultimate 4x in every black deck to a borderline sideboard option is crazy. I think it should still make the 1/1 Orc on etb, even if it doesn’t deal damage.
The One Ring is a tricky one, there isn’t really a way to nerf it without changing the card completely.

orcish bowmasters nerf is the best thing to happen to arena. completely resets the meta for alchemy and historic. they were so warped around that one card it was awful. now the meta feels fresh again for 2 entire formats. huge win, and the only thing i can say is i wish it happened sooner than it did. lol.
i'm so excited to get to play with rusko again! he was completely unplayable with bowmasters in every deck.

I am trying to use Growing Old Together in Alchemy. I think this is just good in a creature-heavy Simic deck and my first idea is a shell with a bunch of cheap creatures with abilities (like Surge Engine and Sleep-Cursed Faerie) to never run out of gas. Put in Agatha's Soul Cauldron and Restless Vinestalk and it seems to me like an aggro deck with nice late game
