The Day Steph Curry Fooled The Entire World

The NBA world has constantly doubted Stephen Curry.

to not being able to score without help, to not winning any more championships.

On August 8th, 2024, Team USA’s basketball olympic run was looking over.

It would be the second year in a row that the US wasn’t the best and this year would hurt even more, after we assembled our best roster. Noah Lyles would be right. (*funny edit of world champion of what)*

Throughout the entire Olympics, Steph Curry was in a slump. Team USA was winning, but had not impressed in the olympics, even nearly losing exhibition games.

And on Thursday, Team USA was constantly and I mean constantly behind. But there was one man among the stars and no it was not LeBron, not Kevin Durant, it was a 6’ 3” undersized, not generational, one dimensional guard that saved an entire country and once again proved everyone wrong, ****but it was even more impressive than that, and it wasn’t the only time.

The same idea that somehow Steph could not carry a team despite leading his team to a championship in 2015 and finals in 2016 without Kevin Durant.

And on the road in a game 6, Curry starts off the game with 0 points in the first half and what happened next only added to the underdog story. Everyone was roasting Steph during half, calling him a choker, unable to lead a team as the main option, and he took the time during the halftime break to look at twitter, take in all the comments, and let it fuel him. He came out in the second half just putting on a clinic.

3, layup, off the dribble. Curry would score 32 points in the second half including multiple clutch 3s to close out the Rockets on the road, again without Kevin Durant.

He also led the league in scoring but at the end of the year, he also made a statement.

And this wasn’t the first time Curry had to make a statement based on what was being said. After Curry and the Warriors won their first championship, everyone was saying the Warriors were lucky to win and that they weren’t that dominant of a team and this is what Curry said.

The lack of a finals MVP was changing his legacy. And in the 2022 playoffs, Curry saved his best for last. Against the Celtics that were able to sweep the Nets and shut down Kevin Durant, in a series where the Warriors were down 2-1. No front running, no Kevin Durant, on the road, in Game 4, Curry goes off, scoring 43 points in every way possible including the deep 3s and the clutch shots.

The Warriors would win the finals 4-2, Curry would finally get his finals MVP. Finally, the commentators saying he’s only a front runner would shut up right? (*curry what are they gonna say now)

But even this still hasn’t been enough, because they came up with something new.

This is what he said in the summer after Steph won.

You do know that Steph actually finishes amongs the best in the NBA, in 2016, he was 2nd in the entire league, even including centers, at finishing in the rim.

In 2023, he was the second best finisher in the league among guards…

While this was the day that Steph saved Team USA, he proved it again in the gold medal game, answering another claim that recently was made by a former all-star point guard Gilbert Arenas.

Yup, he called Steph not generational. And he said this during the playoffs that the Warriors didn’t make this year so Curry didn’t have a chance to retaliate.

Now that word unfair is typically reserved for freaks of nature, generational athletes doing something athletically gifted that no one else can do and that’s what Curry was doing.

And just like all the other times people have doubted Curry, he has responded with his play.

Anyone who was still doubting Curry pre-Olympics will still doubt him post-Olympics. They're too far gone.

So Curry is the only player with 4 rings, a FMVP, 2 MVPs with one being the only unanimous in history, 2x NBA scoring leader, NBA steals leader, FIBA World Cup Gold, Olympic Gold medalist with quite possibly the best final 3 minute sequence we have ever seen, the only player to join the 50-40-90 club averaging 30 ppg +, All Star MVP, 2x 3 point NBA championship, one of only two players in NBA history to score 50+ in game 7 with Tatum being the other, put his 3 point reputation on the line against Sabrina, ended up beating her and beating everyone who played in the regular 3 pt contest for the belt, he is 26-6-6 in 42 games played with KD and KD is 30-7-5 in the 42 games played with Curry. Curry has gone to the Finals 5 years in a row, won a ring before and after KD, and was the number one option on the team that beat MJ's Bulls best record for a season. Curry said "y'all don't want to see us next year" and literally put the Warriors on his back in 2022 and won his 4th ring and FMVP. The only player to win Clutch player of the Year, WCFMVP, the best 3 point shooter the league has ever seen based on volume, the best FT shooter in NBA history, Curry has averaged 32-7-6 in the 5 game 7s in his career, holds too many records I mean it gets tedious eventually its like only player to shoot 4 3s with 5 rebounds on 7 assists while shooting above 70%, 402 3s in a season, over 8000 3pa on 42% shooting, changed the way the NBA played offense for a decade, this past year Curry was 9th in scoring on 26-4-5 shooting 40% on 12 3pa while averaging the least amount of time played compared to the players above him at age 35..and I could legitimately keep going and going.

When you think about it, Steph's legacy is truly inspiring. Every time he achieves something remarkable, people find ways to doubt him. Yet he always rebounds with an even greater accomplishment, only for doubts to resurface, and then he achieves something even bigger. He continually proves his critics wrong.

Just goes to show that most people in the world listen to opinions of the loudest talks and not pay attention or understand shit, everywhere they go

My favorite part of him saying “you dont wanna see us next year” the very next year. He won final mvp. People also tend always forgot that gsw and stephen won finals 2 times without KD. So that’s 2 rings with KD and 2 rings without KD so what you all haters talk about?

Legend.

Seriously Steph should've at the least been co-mvps of those 2 finals with Durant the fact they would just part like the red seas for Durant with the ball in his hands to guard Curry seems extremely valuable to a team and he still played really well in those Finals

The funniest part about Gil's take on Steph not being generational is him using magic as a qualifier, "6'9 with vision" as if we don't have a whole Lebron 😂

If there are STILL people that don't think he is pound for pound the best basketball player in the world I don't know what people are watching. His defense is the only thing you can take from him, and even that it's not like he's asleep on D. I hope FS1 fired the idiot calling him the problem.

Steph's off ball movement, stamina & ability to CONTROL HIS HEART RATE while shooting after exhausting his defender is what, um, well, hospitalized Matthew Dellavedova. Much love to Delly though! He's a good guy & I respect his effort.

Arenas: No one can replicate Magic.
Oddly enough, Lebron's basically like Magic. Maybe not officially a point guard, but Lebron usually leads his teams in assists. Curry though? No one's close to replicating his volume and accuracy. Harden and Lillard are two closest active players behind Curry in 3 pointers made, but neither of them scratch 40% 3pt %. Harden's best season is 39% when he was on the bench for OKC, he's been closer to 35-36% most of his Rockets years. Lillard scratched 40.1% in his best year but he's usually around 37%. Curry's a 42% career average, with only one bad year under 40%, ironically during his '22 championship year.
Plenty of incoming kids will be chucking up tons of shots, but no one's replicating 10+ attempts a game and making 40% of them as the main guy on their team.

Steph wasn't a generational talent, he "just" changed the game completely :D

I believe a lot of(not all) black dudes like to hate on Steph because he is light skinned. The minute that Steph has a bad showing they swoop in like vultures but if lebron or KD have a bad showing, they still call them goats.
