M4900 Kubota A/C Compressor Replacement

Today we have a problem with our M4900 Kubota Tractor. The air conditioning is not working. We need to replace the a/c clutch. But, it's not going to be as simple as this. The clutch cost close to $600 and the compressor (from Kubota) costs $1,900. I thought we could remove the clutch only and replace it. Turns out it's less expensive to replace the compressor than the clutch along. The cost of the compressor is around $205(aftermarket). Here is a link to the compressor we used. EEEKK. Was really hard to get information these Kubota tractors. You are supposed to dump out the oil that came in the compressor and add PAG oil back (I prefer just a touch in the compressor and mainly in the outlet of the drier), up to 3 oz if you replace the drier and the expansion valve. The expansion valve is in the roof (you take off the top). If the compressor was bad the expansion valve was most likely flooding it and destroying the compressor. You should flush with denatured alcohol with the drier/receiver and compressor removed several times in both directions before changing the expansion valve and then pump that down to a vacuum for hours to evaporate the alcohol from all nooks and crannies. Your are supposed to replace the hoses but I have good luck flushing and you won't believe the junk you get out.

Been there done that! I had a friend replace virtually the entire air conditioning system only for me to later determine it was the switch! I am having issues again, certainly want to check that switch before doing another major a/c repair.

Great video, so I guess being a farmer means you have to be a mechanic, tree surgent, part time vet, heavy equipment operator, carpenter just name a few skills needed in everyday farm life.
