In the year 10191, humans have unfolded many secrets of the universe and now travel from planet to planet. Different planets have turned into different nations and are governed by a single Emperor. The planets have “houses” with their respective dukes who in turn follow the orders of the emperor. One of such planets is the planet of Arrakis. It is a harsh desert planet that is the only source of a rare substance called "spice".

The only problem with this kind of videos is once you start you cannot stop

I never thought I'd see Drax the Destroyer, Aquaman and Thanos in the same movie

The start of this film is surprisingly accurate to the book. I'm impressed.

I am impressed by how similar the movie is to the books. It makes me SO happy they didn’t butcher the story and kept many amazing and important details from the original text.

Dune fanboy here. It's not set in 10191 AD, it's 10191 AG (after guild). About 10, 000 years before Dune starts, there was a huge war between men and AI (or thinking machines) which humans win. They make a law to "not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind" so AI, Robots, even calculators are all outlawed in this universe. Depending on which source you use, it's set somwhere between 30, 000-50, 000 in the future. They aren't testing Paul if he is the "messiah of Arakkis", they are testing to see if he is, essentially, the "Messiah". The bene gesserit have planted myths on many worlds, Arakkis is just one. And lastly, the Ecologist isn't going to take a thopter, she wa calling a worm to ride (there's one scene with her holding the hooks for this just before the Sardukar kill her).

Sorry, I had to.

One problem I've always had with Dune:
If spice is required for FTL travel, how did humans get to Arrakis to discover spice?
10, 000 years is not long enough to get very far at slower than light speed.

"at the same time paul trips balls"
BEST MOMENT

"At the same timing Paul trips balls from the spice..." - man, you are ruining my childhood memories and one of my favourite books from when I was a teenager! But it was so funny that I blew some air out of my nose.

Why do they use bladed weapons:

So first of all they do use guns, missiles, lasers, all that stuff in the Dune Universe. It's just that after thousands of years of their use counter strategies have emerged to limit their effectiveness. Like the way Prey and Predators compete with evolutionary adaptions.
Laser guns are called "Lasguns" - and they are commonly used. However, if a lasgun beam interacts with even a small personal shield this results in a large Pseudo Nuclear explosion, so they have to be very careful and selective of targets.
Projectile hand weapons are often referred to as "Maula Pistols" - they often fire darts that are more effective at penetrating shields, but they have heavy duty cannons and guns as well. Shields are almost completely effective at repelling fast powerful projectiles or explosives however - but not everyone has shielding all the time.
Also keep in mind, all sophisticated computers are banned so this limits what they can do with the tech.

Nice how they turned a 1960's novel into this masterpiece

As someone who loves this book and really enjoyed this movie, you are explaining it amazingly. It’s what the movie should’ve done a little bit better with but still a work of art.

Sidenote: the year 10191 is not in the Gregorian Calendar. I don't remember the details but we are many many MANY more thousands upon thousands of years more into the future if we keep the Gregorian Calendar, which I think is called the Old Calendar or Ancient Calendar in the Dune universe.

Small correction: the Bene Gesserit are not trying to create a "Messiah of Arrakis", nor is "the One" supposed to save Arrakis from exploitation. The Bene Gesserit could care less how Arrakis is treated as long as society is stable and the spice continues to flow. They want to create the Kwisatz Haderach because they believe that he can prevent the collapse of human society and can find a path for humanity that will endure.

The year 10191 ag is actually 30, 000 years in our calendar since bg ends in 20, 000 bg and the first dune book takes place in 10191 ag which means it's about 30, 000 years in the human calendar which the people from dune don't use

Fun fact: Star wars was heavily inspired by Dune's story and technology back then, but they implemented on their own story to make it less recognizable towards dune.
