India's Top Economist and former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan speaks to Barkha Dutt in the 36th episode of our podcast 'Inside Out with Barkha Dutt'.

Rajan talks about the row with BJP's Subramanian Swamy. He says "Swamy was unleashed without any restraint. I raised the issue with govt but nothing happened. They came to my defence only after we parted ways," he says.

Rajan is the Katherine Dusak Miller Distinguished Service Professor of Finance at Chicago Booth. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India between September 2013 and September 2016. Between 2003 and 2006, Dr. Rajan was the Chief Economist and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund.

while he takes credit for things now, he was also the fiercest critic and flagging dooms day right after he left and especially during covid.
SS ways weren't polite but SS's claims were that he kept interest rates too high to cripple indian small businesses but benefit US large businesses (like walmart, amzn etc) that were getting ultra low interest rates from the US. RR didn't respond to that at all! Hence, SS called him a stooge of obama!

This guy, when Modi came to power, advised him to start printing ₹10, 000 notes because rupee had greatly lost its value due to inflation. Rajan had Obama call up Modi and advise him to continue with Rajan as RBI governor. But Modi doesn't like incompetents and fired him. So Rajan is hoping congress comes back to power so that he can get some kind of job (RBI governor or finance minister or PM). So he has become a full time Gandhi family sycophant 😅 Elections are near. That is why we are seeing more of him these days, with more fake narratives

All in all his calculation went wrong when covid happened. Modi’s luck that his decision on demonitisation and digital payment clicked. RR’s bad luck that American economy went tail spin and he could not justify that.

There are reasons why RBI governors keep low profiles in the media.

Raghursm Rajan has not understood why they do it.

He is suave and his working in the US university also has given him easy access to the india’s anglicized electronic media. He has political ambitions.

I wonder he had nothing to say about American economy, American unemployment and American inequality in wealth and income.
