I think in most European countries, hazard light is also used for thanking. Blinking long lights is for informing something is wrong, like "cops are ahead" or "your lights are off" etc.

In canada, once the car lets me in i just wave to say thanks. The car behind me usually sees it on my rear window

in australia you raise your hand (like a still wave), mostly the left one so if the driver is behind you they can see it through the back window. a simple nod also works if your at an intersection or something

Truck drivers in America use the hazard lights for the same reasons.

Normal in the USA. Especially when communicating with tractor trailers

Most people just put a one hand wave up as a thanks

We usually just beep or flick our front lights on as thanks, you go first, or as a greeting if we know the driver (from my experience)

In the US, at least states where courtesy is still observed, you turn your lights on/off (day) or off/on (night) to thank them. you'll see trucks doing this all the time if you let them in.

Here in the US, when I drive on mountain roads on a single-lane road and some driver is driving too close to me I’ll pull up to the side of the road, let them pass and they blink their emergency light for a couple of seconds as a way of thanking!

I use my hazards for a second or two in the US when they give way, mostly for 1 lane mountain roads.

I'm not from the US but I live in the US. I still use my hazard lights as a thank you, like how my dad taught me. He is a truck driver so also got used to it-

In America it's usually either a hand up as a short wave and a honk, or just the wave, or if at night flash your lights once

Sweetie, truck drivers in America use the hazard lights to say thank you, too. We have for decades. Typically seen after a driver flashes his head lights to let a passing semi know that his trailer is clear to come over. 🚛 🚛 🚛

At least on the East Coast here in the US. Blinking your hazards for a couple seconds Is saying thank you.

I've always used the hazards to say thanks to other drivers here in the States. You just turn them on for a blink, then a moment, then flash them again.

I do this in the states. I know it confuses them but I just do one complete blink when they obviously are not expecting gratitude
