Bert signing a one-year in toronto just killed me. I knew it would be hard re-signing him, because of both: cap space and his history of extensions.

I don’t really mind the Killorn deal for the Ducks. Killorn has championship pedigree and could be someone their young players can learn from. They arent gonna be good for a while so they can afford to give Killorn this deal, especially with cap projected to jump in the upcoming seasons. By the time the Ducks project to be good, it’ll probably be the last year of the deal anyways. That’s just what I think

The Canucks had a sneaky solid free agency. Buying out OEL helped free up some cap space.
It didn’t leave Allvin with much to work with, but he made some quality small yet smart signings.
Most notably Carson Soucy at 3x$3.25M, Ian Cole and Teddy Blueger both on 1 year contracts, $3M and $1.9M respectively.
While it may not be much, the defense has still beefed up a bit. Blueger just won the Cup and provides good bottom 6 depth. Management is in a hard spot yet are navigating well with the resources they have. Difficult to criticize these signings.
Also, it is worth mentioning Akito Hirose at 2x$787K. This is a player that will surprise a lot of people.

Unlucky timing with Bertuzzi signing a deal today

No mention of the Wheeler signing? He might not be a top line player anymore but at the price, and term, the Rangers absolutely did a wonderful job there.

I agree with you on all of these. If I could add another best and worst, I would add Wheeler as a best and add the Engvall 7 year deal as the worst haha

As an Avs fan I didn't know what to think of this deal. The term isn't good. But after thinking about it, if he gets a point per $100k of AAV he'll be worth it. The low AAV can make it easier to trade him in 2 or 3 years as well. Lastly, I will take this deal all day long over reupping Compher for 5 years at over $5m per.

Duchene was the BEST signing of free agency. So much production for dirt cheap. Dallas is gonna be tough this coming season

Another contract that I think was great was the Connor Brown contract!

Miles Wood is one of the fastest skaters in the league. When he’s on the ice he forces turnovers, creates a lot of pressure, and wins puck battles. He allows plays to develop. He could easily plug in with a 2nd or 3rd line and become an opportunity generator for the goal scorers. He’s also a big tough forward who can drop the gloves when needed. I’m surprised he got a 6yr deal, I’m assuming that is the only reason he left NJ, but he’s a solid player and a good grab for Colorado. We’ll miss him on the devils.

Jonathon Drouin to Colorado was the best. Just for the pure fact that MacKinnon gets to play with him again.

The Ryan Reaves signing screams Brian Burke when he signed Brad May.

Dallas has loaded up with talent and was already a cup contending team. They are going to be tough to handle and should be a serious Stanley cup contender.

Idk. Dallas is going to find out pretty quick that Duchene may be a good player but his locker room presence is why he's been traded from the avalanche and now from nashville. Dude tries to take over and micromanage the other players because he thinks he's gods gift and hes the kind of player on the team that instantly forms some toxic clique with one other player and then spends all his time shit talking the other players behind their backs and leading his henchmen around like he's king of the castle. I met the guy with my rec hockey team as a kid and he was the ONLY member of the avalanche who refused to sign our jerseys. So the entire avalanche team signs our jerseys while Doucher sat in a corner with his manager whining about having to be there the entire time. Dude didn't even give an excuse for not signing. He just didn't wanna be fucked to do it. Our teams mangement was comprised of parents volunteering their time and money to get us all to these games and he was so fucking rude and condescending to them throughout the whole event that our parents paid out of their pockets for. The entire rest of the avs were fucking amazing to us. Milan fucking Hejduk was even there and I got his signature right next to my number. That made up for everything.

If anyone can single-handedly ruin Dallas, its Matt Douchene. Nashville buying him out is just more evidence he sucks as a human.

Tyler Bertuzzi has signed a 1yr, $5.5M contract in Toronto.

Big brain moment for Ken Holland. A small $775K cap hit this season with an easy performance target, 10 games played for Connor Brown to get the other $3.25M.

Structuring it like that makes this contract comparable to other contracts offered to Connor Brown by other teams in terms of total money earned while having a small cap hit.

I disagree with Killorn and Korpisalo contracts being bad...Killorn had most points of all free agents, he brings so much to the locker room, he is a great player and dont show any signs off slowing down. For me that deal hurts as a Lightning fan+Killorn being my favourite player was so hoping for him signing new deal w the bolts.

On Korpisalo...look what team he was playing w bad records also that he wasnt fully healthy, now that he is...he played a great season and got even better when he got actually good defence in front of him. Columbus was dealing with alot of injuries and literally so many AHL players were on their lineup through the year and he still played well. I think him in Ottawa is great fit. Just what im really wondering is why didnt the kings sign him a new deal, their goalies look weak for coming year unless Copley turns into a wall.

On the other hand, the Duchene deal definetly is the best deal of the free agency. Also Jvr, Pacioretty deals are very low risk high reward deals and can be very important for their teams this year.

What suprises me the most is why is Sprong not getting already longer deal than 1 year, he seem to be very solid player that i think every team would be glad to have on their squad.
