LIVE: CNN Defamation Trial — Zachary Young v. CNN — Day One

Zachary Young, a U.S. Navy veteran, is suing CNN over a 2021 segment that aired on “The Lead with Jake Tapper.” Young claims the network falsely painted him as an “illegal profiteer” exploiting “desperate Afghans” with “exorbitant” extraction fees amid the fallout of President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Young is the president of Florida-based corporation Nemex Enterprises. His claims sue CNN for defamation per se, defamation by implication, group libel and trade libel, claiming that his efforts to save lives in Afghanistan as a security consultant were distorted by “lies published for sensationalism.”

Its sad that the news has gotten away to get this far for so long. I hope with this case and the case on the view. Makes people learn how to stop getting into people's person life.

Omg seriously... if that's a joke for the record could you at least make it record worthy! Some of these lawyers... smart with zero ability to read the room.

How much money did CNN donate to help Afghanistan citizens escape the terror, their cameras caught on Live TV?

NARCISSISTIC behavior! Narcissists will verbally attack & accuse you but, then say they didn't do anything & then blame YOU & call you crazy lol.😂

👨‍⚖️ ~ Oh, sense to mute sidebar conversations for the most part. I don’t understand why every court does this. Not only is the information public for anybody that orders a transcript, but when they discuss the exact same information when the jury is out of the room, they play it for the public. But when they’re talking when the jury is in the room, they mute it for the public. I understand, needing to mute it for the sound system, but not the television cameras. And there was absolutely an easy way to accomplish that. So that’s very annoying.

At least cameras are allowed to be in the court room in general, but some of the judges most important decisions are done at sidebar conversations with the public does not get to hear. And of courts are supposed to be open to the public, then sidebar conversations are some of the most important that the public should hear. You could arguably say it’s more important than the testimony. Because the jury sits in the courtroom to represent the general public, the judge does not represent the general public. So the judges, most important decisions are what the public needs to know in order to decide if they’re going to elect him or not.

Why are the lawbooks behind the judge alternating upside down?

The lawyer said it is a privilege to represent Zachary so does that mean he's doing it pro-bono? Zach's lawyer says CNN's story is all about "theatre" then he talks about Hollywood and Liam Neeson to describe how Zach did his work!

It is interesting that when the defense gives their opening statements the plaintiff and his lawyers body posture is very open and indicative of agreement of what defense lawyer is stating.

The surging audio is really killing me. It's hard to follow conversation with the surge.

2:29:23 lawyers already pulling low blows! You know this had plaintiff's lawyers *fuming..* Obviously we know that they didn't show the video bc they messed up and thought they had 40 minutes instead of 60, but the jury doesn't know that bc they weren't in the courtroom during that discussion 😂😂
