5 Characters Who Made The HARRY POTTER Movies Better!

Hermione’s character in the movie was made into less of a know it all than she was in the books, and this helped her be more likable.

This channel is inspired by Harry Potter Theory. I grew up loving Harry Potter and always wanted to come up with my own theories and ideas about the lore and world-building of the series. I hope you enjoy this theory video, and subscribe if you want to see more!

For those who haven't read the books yet, Umbridge sent the Dementors to Harry.

I still like Slughorn, in both book and movie. One thing the films took away from his character was probably the best part of his short appearance in the book. He took on Voldemort, the former student he was positively terrified of, face to face and duelled him. Duelling a wizard as powerful as Voldemort is an incredible feat, not to mention if you’re a stooped old man of 115. Dumbledore, being the greatest wizard alive, was an exception. But Slughorn, who was thoroughly petrified of his former student, not only did it, he actually managed to hold the Dark Lord off his students for a while. He was blasted into a wall and left sprawling on the ground, but that’s not the point. It was extremely courageous of him, and it was removed from the movies.

In the movies, well, I first watched the movies so I didn't knew that she made harry write "I must not tell lies" On his arm over and over again till midnight for so many days, as said in the books... I thought it was just one time thingy.... She was pure evil, in every sense

Likable characters ≠ better characters. Sometimes a character being hated adds to the narrative and the experience. Like imagine if Umbridge was just a little strict and not completely evil, she wouldn’t have had nearly the same impact.

Had i read the books before the movies, i'd have probably imagined Umbridge looking like Aunt Marge. But the fact that she was portrayed by Imelda Stauton with her small twinkling eyes capable of so much expression, her sing song voice that could send shivers up your spine, and her majestic portrayal in general, made Umbridge a much better character (better, in this case means unlikable). In the books she had a face like a toad: big eyes, big mouth, but movie Umbridge has the sort of pleasant face that makes you feel uncomfortable.

Dude, Hermione in the movies was literally an All-Perfect Goddess. If anything the Movies made her character a lot more boring and annoying. If there is any noticable improvement over her book version, then it is, the Movie Hermione being a lot more Hotter and Sexier, all thanks to Emma Watson and her Costume designer.

Objectively speaking, Percy didn’t betray the Weasleys. He estranged himself and said some cruel things about Arthur, but he didn’t actively work against them. Also, from Percy’s perspective, the Weasleys betrayed him first by invalidating his promotion as some mere ploy to spy on them, even though there isn’t any solid evidence to confirm that was Minister Fudge’s plan. It’s possible Percy did earn that promotion. Also also, the Weasleys were lowkey toxic to him, with only Molly treating him well.

At least some of my favorite characters made this list. No matter what there's never enough hate for Umbridge, book and movie versions. Awesome video btw.

I find Snape, Draco, and Umbridge more tolerable in the films than in the books but Bellatrix more annoying in the films than in the books.

Edit: With Bellatrix being more annoying I mean she's more despicable and determined to kill. I agree Helena nailed the role.

Slorghorn never seemed selfish, just clever and looked out for himself. Like a true slytherin.

Super strong disagreement on Hermione. They took a flawed and interesting character and turned her into a Mary Sue. In doing so, they also removed everything that made Ron an interesting character, and gave it to Hermione. My hatred for movie Hermione is as strong as my admiration for book Hermione.

Not so fun fact: the actor who played Dolores Umbridge had to take therapy because of how cruel her character was. It made her really sad to think about such cruelty to children
