5 Things To Know About K-Pop Group BTS

If you haven’t heard of K-Pop group BTS, prepare to get yourself educated because they are currently blowing up…

Korean Boy Band BTS isn’t exactly a household name in the states yes, but they have been blowing up on the international charts since their debut in 2013 as the #1 Korean act, and they’re about to go on their second tour of the US. Made up of seven members, including Rap Monster, Jin, SUGA, V, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook, this group is definitely on its way to global superstardom. So here’s some fun facts you gotta know about BTS...

First, BTS stands for “Bangtan Son-yeon-dan”, which means “Bulletproof Boy Scouts”. The guys decided to use the acronym BTS as their English language tag, probably because a music group named after an organization all about collecting patches for good deeds doesn’t exactly scream “Swag”.

At the end of 2016, their second studio album, Wings, became the highest-charting Korean album to EVER appear on the Billboard 200, debuting at No. 26. It also went on to win the "Best Kpop Album of 2016" award by Billboard. The album was re-released under the title “You Never Walk Alone” in February of this year, with additional and expanded tracks. The album went platinum, selling more than 1.9 million copies worldwide. And this month the guys are taking all their hit songs from that album, including “Spring Day” and “Blood Sweat and Tears”, as well as their incredible dance moves, on a tour around the US.

Another awesome thing about BTS, is that they aren’t afraid to break gender norms. In a gender-bending photo shoot for Singles Magazine, the group wore fishnet stockings, corsets, and skirts in open defiance of gender norms.

Another cool fact about BTS, is that they produce most of their own music. Members Rap Monster and Suga have particularly gained recognition for their producing skills, and the entire group is credited with writing the majority of their hip-hop-infused songs.

But perhaps our favorite thing about BTS, is that they go above and beyond to connect with their fan base. Not only do the boys frequently post to their social accounts, they also interact with fans through regular live streams, adding English subtitles so that they can connect with their international fanbase, as well as their fans at home. They also have a “Bangtan Bomb” web series, which features clips of their daily lives and behind the scenes footage from their tours.

And with that, I think we can all agree that BTS deserves all the recognition and success coming their way.

Alright guys, now I wanna know what your favorite thing is about BTS, so sound off with all your thoughts in the comments below. I’m your host Tom Plumley, thanks so much for tuning in and I’ll see ya next time!

Dont really understand why alot of people in the comments are saying that they want the boys to be "their little secret", when it was their dream to make it big and make the fans happy. Sure some haters are gonna roll around but that happens to everyone in this industry. As a fan of 3 years, Im happy they are getting big in the western areas because thats what they deserve. Worldwide recognition. Their talent deserves to be spread not hidden or confined. I really love all this attention from western media outlets and I hope they get even more in the near future. BTS fighting!

My favorite thing about BTS is their music. They don't make music about sex, drugs, clubs, and butts. They make songs that can relate to people's lives and they make songs with emotions and song you can just get up and dance around to. They also make songs that if you are stressed out you can just lay down and listen to a relaxing meaningful song. A lot of songs lately are about getting high in clubs and how many girls you've banged in 1 day or about how big another girls butt is. I'm happy I can listen to music that actually has good meanings. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of American songs that are meaningful that I listen to, its just sad that I can only find a few. And it makes me happy I can I can find ALOT with BTS.

I'm actually scared that BTS is getting really big, having US/Hollywood media outlets talking about them ALOT lately. Don't get me wrong, I'm very proud of my boys, being more recognised internationally after overcoming so many challenges over the years, to be where they are now. From a group that has low recognition, to being known worldwide! But, i just feel everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon because they're huge right now. I hope new fans/ARMYS support and like them because of their talents, songs & personalities, not just because they're popular. :) ARMY FTW!

To all you new fans, don't be discouraged by the rude and mean ARMY's. I promise, not all of us is like that. You can be an ARMY. Even if you can't sing their songs, even if you don't buy their albums, just support the boys with all your love and defend them from the haters. It doesn't matter if you weren't here at the beginning, it's if you are willing to stay until the end.

Edit: Thanks for the likes even though I didn't plan getting so much nor did I intend to lol. Remember winning awards and things for the boys isn't everything so please, *please* don't start fanwars with other fandoms. They care as much as we do for Bangtan and we have no right to fight with them for whatever stupid reasons. If you do see someone hating on Bangtan, ignore it, report it but do not play fire with fire. Do not respond and give them the attention they don't deserve.

But saying that, if you do see someone hating on BTS for their race, gender, looks, music etc. Say or posts things with 10x the positivity. Saying you love the boys and complimenting that and sh-t.

This was long lol but anything for mah fam and boys.

Guys I have been an Army since 2015. And Army it's okay for new army's to join. Yes, they might not know a lot about them because it's not there main language. So please, be happy that our boys are getting notice. They are on the news and are blowing up. But also, we have to watch out for the fake fans.

They're a great set of guys. They value each other and their fans. The boys are extremely funny online but aren't afraid to show their emotional sides as well. BTS members are so good-looking and talented! Check out their videos to be amazed! <3
