Anglers from far and wide come to Australia to experience what fishing in Queensland is all about. With over 300 days of sunshine, 7,000 kilometers of coastline, and access to the Great Barrier Reef, the “Sunshine State” is one of the world’s most productive and diverse fishing spots.
From Cairns all the way down to Brisbane, the entire Queensland coastline is filled with amazing angling opportunities – both in freshwater and saltwater. Inshore, you can plan on targeting the likes of Barramundi, Mangrove Jacks, Fingermark Bream, Threadfin Salmon, and many more. Further inland, you’ll find Australian Bass and many other freshwater fish along the upper reaches of some of the coastal rivers of southern Queensland.
Over the reefs, you can catch Pinkies, Nannygai, Red Emperor, Spangled Emperor, Coral Trout, Gold Spotted Cod, and many other delicious bottom-dwellers. Further off the coast, you can go after various Billfish species, such as Black Marlin, Blue Marlin, Striped Marlin, Sailfish, and Spearfish.
