I have completed my Btech in marine engineering back in 2019 and i am currently sailing on gas carriers and honestly this kid is living in some utopia because the salary he quoted after clearing the exam post Training period is no where close to the real deal. Salaries are as follows -
1. Engine Cadet - $500 to $1000 per month
2. 4th Engineer - 2500 to 4500
3. 3rd Engineer - 3k to 6k
4. 2nd Engineer - $8k to 11k
5. Chief - $11k to 15k

One has to realise that to become a crorepati a person will have to sail for practically a whole year I guess as a 4th Engineer plus the cost of living in India too is increasing rapidly so the dream of becoming andrew tate is a little far fetched financially speaking. And I hate to break it to this guy but life at sea is tough so its definitely not everyone's cup of tea....wishing him luck coz he needs a whole lot of it

Will say just one thing, a computer science engineer earns in crores and at the same time a computer science engineer is also earning 10-20k per month

All lies... It's been 8 years after clearing college... Licences cleared upto Class 1( Chief engineer)... Haven't got 70 LPA..
Don't spread such lies...
Normal salary on today's date... After clearing 1st exams... (Class 4) is 2000 USD COMES around 1 lakhs 60thousands... Which you would get for say 7-8 months a year.. no one can sail continuously for whole year... So yearly salary would be 10-12lakhs per year.. and mind you this is for highest paying companies .. it can be around.. 800 dollars per month... And this salary ... Would be same for atleast 2 years... Minimum 2 -3 contracts .. as 4th eng.. then the increament would be around 1500 dollars 3rd engineer... Or so years you would be getting to 20 lpa... Max 30 lpa...that too for 2-3 years you will have to do.. So once you become 2nd engineer and if you are in tankers .. you can start from 8000 USD per month and can increase upto 10-12k usd per month... Then you will be getting 70LPA...But if you are in dry fleet.. containers and bulks.. you can get from 5-6k initially to max 8k per month... So that will be 50lpa... If you are sailing like 9 months a year minimum ....
SO it's not the trajectory this kid is saying... And many young guys get into this trap...and probably get caught in fake agents ... Company traps.. and end up. Paying 4-5 lakhs for jobs.. apart from 10-15 lakhs from college fees.. and then get jobs for around 20k per month... As 4th engineer... And enter into debt trap..
So learn about the field first...
How?
Ask people who are already sailing ..
To enter this field.. don't go for colleges.. IMU CET EXAMS ETC
are just an entrance procedure...
Look for company sponsorship.. which will guarantee you a job..
Many colleges in India have been running for last 10-15 years.. with pretty bad placement conditions...so getting scholarship initially is the best way to secure your job..
Secondly get into good companies...
There are many substandard companies... Which would make you work in less than market standard conditions as well as salary... Companies exploit 4th engineers the most... So be careful with that...
Apart from all these... There are multiple courses and exams which one has to do and renew in 5 years period.. in which the licence exams..( 3 licences for 4th eng/3rd eng.. 2nd eng and chief eng) are tricky.. because clearing such exams.. requires hardwork plus luck .. so it's not as smooth as one is expecting it to be...
Lastly ship job is completely different from land job...
You won't be able to be with your family at the times of their needs...
Even if it's emergency.. if you are in midsea.. you won't be able to be there...
Working conditions are nothing like land..
Especially engineers work in Hot and humid say 40degs.. to 50degs..conditions with physical ( overhauling machineries and maintenance operation)and mental work so it's not an office AC kinda job... So be prepared for that... Be prepared for emergencies.. as sea life.. everything has to be done.. the people onboard.. so be it.. grounding or fire.. be prepared to deal with it...
But apart from these.. if one likes to do jobs by hand( maintenance operation) he/ she would love it... It's a job which can help you get away from all the bullshit of day to day life too.. you maybe lucky enough to meet people from all across globe.. and visit fantastic places.. even the sea itself is majestic and beautiful... And yes.. after 6-7 years.. and if you were lucky and cleared exams properly and got into good companies.. you can definitely earn a lot of money.. a lot!!!

This guy is telling the truth. There is a lot of money there. I see a lot of comments here about no family time at all. That is not completely true. A person in the merchant Navy is given atleast one or two months on land, i.e., holiday. They have holidays just like school summer vacations. In those vacations, they have to do routine office work that's it.
The biggest risk is that the his wife and family will eventually stop thinking about him.

Best is to be a marine engineer and marry a marine engineer so that RUSTOM won’t happen 🤣

My father has been a marine engineer (in merchant navy). He became a chief engineer when I was born. (I am his second child).Even though he did make a lot of money, got to roam the world and everything was paid by the company you miss out literally years of time with your family. If you are married then they allow your spouse to come too but if you have a kid then someone will have to stay to take care of his/her education .So most of the time, my father had to sail alone.
Also as you get promoted, the number of months per year that you have to sail get reduced slowly too. (I am not sure about this fact, but it is something I have just noticed. I might be wrong here).
Sometimes if the ship is on a port for a lot of days, then by getting permission from the company, you can visit the city in which the port is.

IMU-CET 163 Rank here 2019 batch. Didn't join though. He is telling truth. But it's not all about money. There is literally no family time. You miss most important and precious moments of your life.

He's exaggerating you can earn 70-80 lpa only if your become Chief Engineer that will take approx 10 years and the salary depends on the type of ship as well

Seeing the comments, i feel people really don't know what this is.
Guys the ships engine is a 4 storey building
You are getting this much because it is really tough. You have to work away from family for 6 to 9 months without seeing land
