After taking apart most of the interior I decided to take a proper look at the condition of the floor. It needs a few patches, but overall the condition isn't too bad for a 36 years old car that has spent all of its life in the harsh northern climate...

This car is a 1986 Volvo 740 GL with the B200K engine. It was originally automatic, but at some point someone converted it to 5-speed manual (the M47 gearbox). I've owned this Volvo since april 2020 and have used it as a daily driver every now and then. It is currently waiting for repairs so I can get it through the inspection and back on the road.

I had a Volvo 740 & 940, didn't have a good time with them but my 240 saved my life literally when smashed on M6.

Aw3some t7torial, especially if y9u have a 740 /760 whether it is the basic model or the Turbo series.

Fortunately, for various reasons, my '90 740 GL has fared better - rust wise - than your '86. Some of it is due to the extensive use, starting with the '87 models, of 'Zincrometal'. The other is that I have owned this car for over 22 years and have been quite diligent keeping up on the underbody coating Volvo used on these models. Just recently I began removing this undercoating with plans to remove as much as I can by hand before having the underside dry ice blasted. After that the same company will apply the same rust prevention coating that Volvo and other European car makers have been using for over 2 decades. I'm hoping by doing this I can avoid much - if not all - of the damage caused by the application of road salt in my northern climate. Yuck! lol

I got lucky cos my 142 1969 had almost no rust under the isolation.
