Best gym type is ground! The sheer amount of awesome dual-types. Swampert. Garchomp. Excadrill. Torterra. There are a bunch.

A water type gym would be a strong choice. Gyrados, Lapras, and Swampert is a solid core. Maybe a Golisopod, a Poliwrath, and a Wash Rotom.

How is this not an official setting? This is easily one of the things people wanted to do the most when Pokemon came out and makes no sense not to have an official version.

I would LOVE to be a fairy-type gym leader. Fairy types are just the absolute cutest, with some absolutely epic Pokémon to boot (like mimikyu and Sylveon)

I'd probably go Electric just cause my favorite Pokemon is in that category. As much as I'd want a personalized team, I'd probably have to go with what I can get just so I could be a bit of a challenge in Gyms though.

Always thought this would be cool as most of my favourite pokemon are poison. Nidoking, Weezing, Croagunk would be my team. Got a cool visual balance too - tough, goofy and cute lol

Honestly, I'd probably rotate types to get more experience with all of them. My goal wouldn't be to be overwhelmingly powerful: being a Gym Leader ought to already provide opportunities to easily attain power not available to normal Trainers, and that's not the point of the job anyway. The trick would be to build a gym to allow the evaluation of trainers as they progress towards reaching me, so I can decide if they should get whatever badge I'm in charge of, and what I need to test them on personally to make sure. Well, that, managing the gym regulars and their own progress, and community work.
