Ukraine's air defence has been bolstered after the Viktor anti-aircraft machine-gun entered operational service, to help combat Iranian-made Shahed 'suicide drones'.

The Viktor is a twin 14.5mm barrelled anti-aircraft weapon, capable of shooting down and destroying drones, fighter aircraft and helicopters at distances of up to 1.24 miles.

The armed forces of Ukraine have received 15 of the guns, which are typically seen mounted onto the rear of Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles.

Its a 1940s ZPU-2 with minor improvements.
The bullets will not have a self destruct function and so will do damage when they fall back down.

Back to grandpa's days in WW2 :) If they would have the same system with some electronic warfare stuff like signal jammers, that would be a great development.

Don’t know how effective this will be in the AAA role, but as a light fire support platform in the right environment it will be great.

No matter how great your military equipment is, without the support of great soldiers with steel mentality, all of these weapons will be in vain💪💥

~170 of these trucks have been provided by Germany early in the war. 👍🏻

We are seeing a lot of the "MacGyver" anti-aircraft (anti-drone?) vehicles on both sides. The Russians are modifying a lot of MT-LBs with surplus naval guns and any other available surplus weapons. They are some wild looking rigs, almost suited for a "Mad Max" movie. The Ukrainians are also modifying many types of vehicles with AA guns, but they seem to be more like the "technicals" seen in the middle east. With all manner of arms and vehicles pouring into the conflict as it drags on, I'm sure we'll be seeing even more of these vehicles with other types of modifications.

I'm confused. Is this really a loitering munition?

As I understand it, a loitering munition can around the target area for some time and attacks only once a target is located. As I understand it, the Shahed doesn't have a camera, and doesn't communicate with its home base.

I'd have called it a suicide drone or a cruise missile.

I wonder if the ukrainians can ask the detroit-based Ram GMC Chevy and Ford to buy Ram 5500 Ford Ranger T6 F-550 & GMC Sierra related model Chevrolet Silverado to mount the Czech Victor air defense gun.

I believe that taking back Crimea will be the crucial milestone for Ukraine. Also, I feel that Zelensky should begin introducing those who would assume his role in the unimaginable event of his death, so that the world would know that Ukrainians would merely "double down" if Zelensky was injured.
