This was an amazing film. Such an amazing story, characters, music, and action. Wes Studi was born to play the Apache warrior Geronimo. I bet the late John Ford would have loved this film.

Great movie! It got terrible reviews at the time and didn't do so well at the box office but they played it on TV a lot when I was a kid! I recently watched it again and it's a damned good movie! Excellent performances from all of the actors especially Wes Studi and Gene Hackman. A fairly balanced telling of the historical perspectives of both sides. Slightly dated stylistically but the movie came out over 25 years ago. Violent but not gory. Action packed and fun but still with a respect for the actual events. Great music! Really underrated film!

Gerónimo, the most famous Apache leader, was born in a camp near the Gila River, which at that time was part of the territory of Sonora, Mexico 🇲🇽 (Currently New Mexico, United States).
Baptized in his native language as Goyaalé, "the one who yawns", he has gone down in history as Gerónimo.
Some suggest that the name arose as a mispronunciation by Mexicans of his authentic Indian name, Geronimo was "Mexican" although as a member of the Apache ethnic group he did not consider himself a citizen of any country.

Just watched this, it wasn't amazing but I respected the message until the end.
A film trying to right the wrongs of the decimation of the native American people and the very actor who played Geronimo is 4th in the end credits. Nice job Hollywood!

It’s really interesting:
Geronimo is an American military (almost) hero these days. His grave at Fort Sill has become almost a right to visit.

OBL got the nickname “Geronimo but without honor” after 9/11. That’s why one of the most memorable moments in our military’s history is “For god and country: Geronimo, Geronimo, Geronimo EKIA.”

Fun fact: Gen. Henry Ware Lawton was credited in capturing the Apache Warrior Geronimo. During the Philippine-American War, Gen. Lawton was sent to the Philippines to fight the Filipinos, Gen. Lawton was killed by a Filipino sharpshooter commanded by Gen. Glicerio Geronimo.

Great western, really underrated. I never understood why he was so crushed by critics at the time, this is a Walter Hill masterpiece.
In 1993, Tombstone by Cosmatos, another Western masterpiece of the 90s, was also released.

Anybody who is interested in Geronimo should get themselves a copy of "Geronimo's Story of His Life "Taken down and edited by S.M. Barrett". I pasted photos and stuffed related articles into this thin paperback. Another title to this book of which I've got a photo of the cover of a "newly revised and edited" edition is "Geronimo His Own Story: The Autobiography of a Great Patriot Warrior". "As Told to S.M. Barrett". Charles B. Gatewood is mentioned in this book.

'... and West Studi' He's the title character. How can it be 'and Wes Studi'? I guess they are listing the actors in order of how much they got paid.

THE APACHES WERE MEXICAN 🇲🇽 THEIR ANCESTRAL PLACES WHERE THEY ORIGINATED ARE SONORA AND CHIHUAHUA, (NOT UNITED STATES 🇺🇲) THE BORDER DIVIDED THEM, THEY WERE CONSIDERED INVADERS “BY THE SPANISH AND ENGLISH EUROPEAN INVADERS, THEY WERE NOT CITY OF CAZADORES” THEY LIVED IN CAMPS AND TRAVELED CONTINUOUSLY.

CHIEF APACHE GOYAALÉ KNOWN AS GERÓNIMO WAS BORN IN THE TERRITORY OF SONORA, MEXICO 🇲🇽 (He was born in Sonora, Mexico on June 16, 1829 - died in captivity in Fort Sill, Oklahoma on February 17, 1909), (in Chiricahua language It was Goyaałé which means "the one who yawns") he was a prominent military leader of the Bendoke Apaches, he spoke Mexican Spanish, and like the vast majority of Mexicans he professed Roman Catholicism.

When we hear about the Apaches, we tend to think of them as an indigenous people that belongs to the United States. However, the Apaches congregated different ethnic groups that extend from northern Mexico to the southern United States (Mexican Territory annexed by the United States).
In reality, Chihuahua and Sonora are the cradle of the Apaches, in those states they are recognized as originating from those lands.
A recent study returns Mexicanity to the origins of the ethnic group, which was believed to be US-American, the cradle of this group is in the northern Mexican states, according to the book by researcher Manuel Rojas.
"Apaches: "Fantasmas De La Sierra Madre".
