I saw this when I was a young girl, I don't remember much, but I do remember John Hurt for sure. I had developed a huge crush for him after seeing "Sinful Davey" by John Huston.

Caligula was no idiot. And much of the scandalous and shocking stuff said about him in the ancient histories, are now to be taken with a grain of salt. Even scandal monger Suetonius (the primary source for his reign), says that "He [Caligula] could respond impromptu to speeches that others had carefully prepared beforehand. He was well spoken, and new literature extremely well".
