Generator for Off Grid House

In this episode Von and I show you what we chose to power our off grid house. We pick up a diesel generator that we scored a great deal on, saving us thousands of dollars in our budget. Prime diesel generator for off grid house is going to be our primary power source until we can get together a solar system to meet our needs.

I electric company gave me 2- 20kw 1 to 3 phase generators. One is diesel and one propane. The diesel has 511 hrs and the other has 287 hrs. They were taken out of service 2 yrs ago but before they did that they chg oil filters, air and fuel filters. I cranked the diesel over yesterday and it purred like a kitten then died for lack of fuel. Yes we do run on to good deals sometimes.

Hey guys. Smart move knowing you need a generator for now and then it will back up your solar power after you get that setup. Off-grid generators are used for backups and emergencies. Now let's talk price. Who the hell could pass that up? That's a great deal and it's probably the only way you would get such a good deal, would be through the military. This is so exciting when things start coming together. This is truly a blessing. Love the videos, thanks for taking me along. Good for you. I have a large propane generator (40kw) and a 1000 gal propane tank. Also one thing to think about, I also have a propane 7kw that I use when I am not running ac units.

Hi Guys, For backup heat for your wood stove you might want to consider a Toyotomi Oil Miser Model 180. Bonus, it vents thru the sidewall no expensive stainless steel triple wall chimney pipe going up thru the roof for thirty feet or more. I put one in my 5 Star home in Fairbanks. It gave me all the hot water I ever needed plus radiant heat in the downstairs slab and in my home made system under the upstairs floor. Toasty toes every morning! My last year in Fbx I spent $5000 on #2 fuel oil for my 1600 F2 duplex in Shannon Park, for the 2600 F2 home $3000 for fuel oil. One of the reasons I retired to Florida! Robert

This is an awesome find! one thing to be careful with is if you are not running the generator at 50% plus you may have some issues with the engine carboning up. They need to run with a load to clean them out. Some one mentioned it below but a platform so oil changes are made easier. Again, great find and all the best from Alberta.
