The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

In a recent interview Elizabeth Warren listed the issues that Bernie Sanders has brought to the forefront of political debate. Her list included a living wage, student loan debt and Wall Street regulation. She could have included unfair trade pacts, affordable healthcare, criminal justice reform, campaign finance reform and so on. Senator Warren ended her interview with the statement that she was proud to be a Democrat. Senator Warren is one of the good guys, but her pride appears to conveniently conflate the good, the bad and the ugly of the Democratic Party.

Certainly FDR’s new deal Democratic Party stood up for American working families, got us out of the great depression and won a war. That Democratic Party proudly stood up to the wealthy and was of the people, by the people and for the people. Bernie Sanders has shown a life time commitment to the FDR new deal principles and that’s why I’m proud to be a Bernie Sanders FDR new deal democrat.

Today’s establishment Democratic Party lacks FDR’s commitment to working families and has nurtured a strange Republican-like relationship with the wealthy. Over the last 40 years establishment Democrats have sold our democracy to the highest bidder. Secretary Clinton is in bed with Wall Street, big pharma, the fossil fuel industry, the private prison group and globalized job outsourcers. Establishment Democrats have gutted FDR’s new deal principles and embraced an undemocratic brand of American plutocracy.

Bernie Sanders has provided a road map back to the party roots in FDR new deal principles, of the people, by the people and for the people. I take no pride in the moral bankruptcy the establishment Democratic Party has delivered, but a great deal of pride in Sander’s Democratic Party resurrection.
