The majorly fucked up thing about sending animals into space is that we can't do that with humans because of our laws regarding torture and ethics. In other words, it's absolutely unquestionable that it's an awful, excessively cruel thing to do for results we may or may not need, and we'd never subject a human to it. But the only reason this view doesn't extend to non-human animals is because they're not human.
It is nothing more than Speciesism and a mindset that human life is worth more than any amount of suffering and destruction of all other living creatures/planet. Idk about anyone else, but I don't find humans to be all that great tbh.
