Knee surgery was the biggest regret of my life

I’m on my 7th right knee and femur surgery. I just got this full right leg reconstruction this past Monday. I am grateful for my surgeon. My first knee implant was undersized. I had a revision. Then I was bicycling and broke my right femur directly above my knee implant. I think my femur had been weakened. It wouldn’t heal, so I had a bone graft in 2020. I fought all the way back, and then my hardware failed, loosened, due to the cement. That is more common than you think. I’m 56. I’ve had 7 major operations in under 9 years. My advice is to wait as long as you can if you need a knee replacement. They don’t last as long as they say.

I know each patient has a different experience but after hearing about the really painful recovery of many, I doubt that I would ever go through this

I had a knee replacement 20 months ago avoid it myself and about 20% of people regret the operation but if you really need it make sure you build up your leg muscles before the operation and get going with physio straight away or better still go to a rehab clinic for your recovery.

People that are overwieght by more than 30 pounds and smokers plus blood vessle problems are very very very high risk. I waited three years to take of 75 pounds off and quit smoking (no wheezing anymore) before my surgeon performed knee replacement. It was a sucess 😊 I am a big guy 6 foot 4 inches but was 300 pounds and a smoker ...lol..June 2024 I will have 5 years smoke free 😊I am 68 and never felt better!

My great uncle had three infections from hip replacements. They would put in the replacement hip, it would get infected and they had to take it out. And it happened three times. He has a hard time walking now and mostly relies on a wheelchair and walker.

In reality knee replacements work about 50% of the time.

I have had my left hip replaced twice in a year due to rampant infection. Infectious diseases were involved and the one doctor told me I was very lucky to be alive. This is because the surgical dept couldn't be bothered to see me as an emergency patient and when I actually did see the registrar he was indifferent. 9 months later I had a pet scan and there were two invaders having a party on the first prothesis. It too me 4 months to be able to walk and 2 years before it was any where near normal. I took shed loads of antibiotics for 6 months (given for Legionnaire's disease plus several other antibiotics). The second implant is huge compared to the original plus I had to have blood transfusions for two days. Then to be told I was 'one of the unlucky ones' I know some people rave about these jobs but I won't be having the other hip done in a hurry I would rather suffer. I have a shoulder that needs doing I am too scared to have it done now.

Is very frustrating I’m 49 my first knee replacement was removed due to allergies to nickel. Had another one put in and my bending range from
95 went down to approximately 39!
My knee always in pain can’t ride a bike or run.
It feels like someone is pressing hard on my knee where I can’t bend !
Feels very tight 😩

Mom just had hers done about 6 months ago and she’s still suffering in pain with that surgery it’s better than it was but the recovery is very slow

Nickel?? I’m allergic to nickel too and need a knee replacement. Who would even think to ask if nickel is used??
