Dumbarton Castle - Dunbartonshire - Scotland | 4K | DJI Mini 3 Pro

Dumbarton Castle has a very long, rich and turbulent history. Built in Iron Age on the top of volcanic rock formed over 300 millions years ago. It was important settlements at the far end of the Roman empire. Later became a mystical castle of Alt Clut, a heart of the kingdom of Strathclyde and according to legends - Merlin's castle. In early medieval times it was changing hands frequently between Britons, Picts, Scots and Vikings who destroyed the castle in 9th century. Nearly 400 years later the castle reappeared in the records and continued its complicated history of battles, intrigues and diplomacy. It is not surprising that it played often a pivotal role in Scottish history, because of its very important strategic location. Fortress overlooks a mouth of river Clyde, important water route to the heart of this area, so since XV century it was equipped with batteries of cannons. It served as a military fortress up until end of II World War. Nowadays it is open for tourists. It is located just 20 minutes drive from Glasgow, the biggest city of Scotland.
