Two activists who were there look back on the 50th anniversary of New York City's first Gay Pride march.
It has been 50 years since the first Gay Liberation March in New York City on June 28, 1970.

Those first demonstrators left Greenwich Village, the crowd growing larger block by block until finally making it to Central Park.

That took heart in 1970. I don't know it went that far back. I never heard of it till I was an adult and thought it was something that began in the last 20 - 30 years.

I’m gay and I think back then it had true purpose and meaning they were so close to one another now it’s just people showing off being judgmental to their own people and hooking up with one another. Sad really what the “community” has become.
