Michael Jackson | Chicago 1945 (Full Version)

preview_player
Показать описание
Recorded during the Victory sessions in 1984, based on one of the grooves Steve Porcaro submitted to Michael.
Vocally complete song about three girls who went out and mysteriously disappeared throughout the night, with a hook of "never to be found again".
Has no connection to either "Al Capone" or "Smooth Criminal". Failed to make the Bad album.
Revisited during the HIStory and Invincible sessions, but was left off both albums.
Porcaro was approached by the estate about using it on Xscape, but declined to give permission on the basis that the song didn't need any "contemporizing", and that he disapproves of the estate's "straight to remix" approach to Michael's unreleased material..
Also known as "Chicago Nights" during the Invincible recording sessions.
Full song leaked online in LQ on November 13, 2022

I love this song. I can visualize how the music video and stage performance of this track could have gone down. It probably would have been similar in vein to Smooth Criminal but with more of a Broadway touch. Perhaps in a Black and White footage as well similar to how MJ would have introduced Smooth Criminal in This Is It.

As for the role MJ himself would have done in the video. The thing I can imagine is him being an observer who is visiting the sights where these events happened and trying to uncover the mystery of Chicago Night or something to that effect.

He wrote this with one of the Porcaro brothers way back in the 80s and considered it for Bad and even Invincible but it never made the cut which is amazing as its an amazing song. The estate wanted to include it on Xscape but the Porcaro brother refused as he was set against the estate re working it.

The legendary song Chicago 1945?!🥺

It's been 30 years since we heard that song.

The most fantasized about unreleased track by the fans.

Lyrics

[Intro]
Sirens
Chicago, Chicago, Chicago!
Chicago

[Verse 1]
It was Chicago 1945
Cubs lost that year, but Al Capone was found alive
They searched forty days, in the suburbs of the night
But they found him, alive
Alive
Young Joe DiMaggio hit his first home run
People gathered 'round, basking in the sun
Three girls disappeared, on a cold windy night

[Pre-Chorus]
Never to be found again, never to be found again, so

[Chorus]
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
You can’t hide the truth, so won’t you turn on the light?
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
Never to be found again, never to be found again
Found again, never to be found again
Found again (Found again)

[Verse 2]
It was so windy, joy had to be in the air (Hee hee)
People gather ‘round to see the world's fair
It was so happy, but sad in the truth
So much is goin’ on
They didn’t know the girls were missing, missing
You can’t choose what they say, and nobody can (Hee hee)
‘Cause on the cover of the Chicago Tribune,
They featured the world's fair
They didn't bother, you know it is the truth (Hoo hoo)

[Pre-Chorus]
Never to be found again, never to be found again, so

[Chorus]
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
You can’t hide the truth, so won’t you turn on the light?
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
Never to be found again, never to be found again
Be found again, never to be found again

[Break]
Found again (Found again, hoo hoo!)
Never to be found again (Hoo hoo, Found again)
You can’t hide anything (Hee hee, found again)
Chicago, we love you! (Hee hee, found again)
You can’t find anything (Found again)
Chicago, ooh-ooh, baby (Found again)
Chicago, chicago (Found again)
Chicago, chicago

[Verse 3]
It was Chicago 1945
Cubs lost that year
But Al Capone was found alive
Searched forty days, in the suburbs of the night
So much was goin’ on
They didn’t know the girls were missing, missing
Can’t choose what they say, nobody can
'Cause on the cover of the Chicago Tribune
They featured the world’s fair
They didn't bother, though it is the scene (Hoo hoo)

[Pre-Chorus]
Never to be found again, never to be found again, so (Hoo hoo, hee hee)
(Tell me)

[Chorus]
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Tell me)
You can’t hide the truth, so won’t you turn on the light?
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Tell me)
Turn on the light (You can’t hide the truth, oh no)
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Tell me)
You can’t hide the truth, but won’t you turn on the light?
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
You can’t hide the truth, we’ll make you turn on the light
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Tell me, ooh-ooh)
Turn on the light (Hoo hoo, hee hee)
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Chicago! You didn’t find anything)
Turn on the light
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
You can’t hide the truth, we’ll make you turn on the light
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
Turn on the light (You didn’t find anything, didn’t find anything!)
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night?
You can’t hide the truth, we’ll make you turn on the light
Who solved that mystery late Chicago night? (Hee hee, hee hee)
Chicago!

Such an amazing song!!😍😍 It sucks that leaks happen but I know that if the producer who owns this track released it I would buy 10 copies. People say leaks like this devalue the song but I disagree. Hearing this just makes me more desperate to get the real thing. Please, estate, do something!!!

This version of "Chicago 1945" should be from the "Bad" album sessions (1985 - 1987). The thing I find interesting is that there are other versions of the song yet to be heard. The first one is a complete rework produced in 1999 - 2001 by the legendary Rodney Jerkins for his "Invincible" album. The other version was created at Neverland in 2004. The latter reminds me of "Days In Gloucestershire" because that demo was recorded at Neverland in the same year, so I assume these are from the same sessions.
