How and why the Trojan war started

You've probably heard of the Trojan war. Of the epic battle between the Trojans and the Greeks, the latter of whom ultimately win the 10-year-war thanks to the cunning use of a massive wooden horse. But why did this war take place at all? Why did Paris abduct Helen? Why did the Greek gods take sides? Is it historically accurate to depict centaurs playing saxophones during ancient Greek wedding? Watch to get answers to at least two of these questions.

Why the _goddess of wisdom_ ever let herself get involved in this mess is still beyond me...

Fun fact- in Sparta in particular, Aphrodite was seen as a war goddess. She's probably the worst person to have "on your side" when you start a war with Sparta

I don’t know what version of Aphrodite’s parentage you’re referring to, but my understanding is that Aphrodite was born out of the sea foam of Cyprus’s shores where Kronos’s genitals landed.
You referred to the three golden Apple goddesses as Zeus’s wife and two daughters.

You could argue that it was Zeus’s direct action that brought Aphrodite into the world, but she was born from a part of Zeus’s father. This would technically make Aphrodite his sister.

@ This is the first volume in The History of the World series, which tells the history of our planet using films, TV-series and documentaries. This first part traces the emergence of the first civilizations; from the sprawling cities of Mesopotamia to the mighty Persian Empire. You'll see the rise and fall of the great kingdoms of the ancient world: the Egyptian civilization, Mohenjo Daro, the Mycenaeans of Greece, the first Chinese kingdoms, the Israelites, the Assyrian Empire – and much more. You'll experience great battles, like Megiddo, Kadesh, the Trojan War and the Persian conquest. And you'll see the great accomlishments of the first civilizations, like farming, city-building, writing, trade, exploration and lawmaking.

Very very very clever advertisement for the exhibition. Shame about the fact that you're advertising to a global audience for a local event, and the rest of us will never see the end of the story. Even though I know it. :(

It omits many other parts of the back story: Who was Helen and to whom is she related? Why was she married to Menelaus ? Why did the other Greeks respond to Menelaus' call for help? This is the story to fill a thousand books.

Helen in Egypt is another version. Aphrodite is wounded here, one of two gods wounded. Why at Troy? Perhaps because this war marks the transition from Copper Age to Iron Age.

I didn't realize how many elements of the Snow White story were shared with the Trojan War. A wicked witch with a golden apple, the fairest maiden of them all, and prince charming are all shared elements.

Im reading The Song of Achilles and im still a little confused. In the book it says any soldier who chooses to fight for troy will come home with wealth, as said from achilles father. does that mean that he fought on the "bad" side of the war?
