I'm Croatian, and she's speaking a clean Serbian. Of course we completely understand each other, but it's very hard for a foreigner to distinguish our two languages.

This is the first time I paid attention to Serbian. For some reason, I found it very satisfying! Another language in my bucket list then😂

Serbian and Croatian are actually two standards of one language. Everything else has nothing to do with the linguistics but politics.

Met a Bosnian once, I was staying at the same hotel as the Bosnian soccer team during the 2014 World Cup. As I was talking to some Bosnian supporters there, I asked about languages and they told me that Bosnian Serbian and Croatian can understand each other, but are different languages, and Serbian and Croatian are the most similar ones.

I've heard a lot of Serbians saying their language is rough while Russian is soft, as a Spanish speaker Russian sounds to me more rough than Serbian, in fact, to my ears when Serbians speak it sounds to me like a Romance Language speaker (Spanish, Italian, Portuguese) speaking Russian with a Romance Language accent... also because Serbians are more expressive than Russians (they gesticulate and move more while speaking than Russians).
