30 years ago visited the old USMC museum at the Navy Yard.  They had both flags on display together. I just stood and stared for 5-10 were the real deals.

What about the long metal pipe the FLAG was tied to? I, LL bet someone threw it away as it must of been too heavy/long as it would of been a sight to see today WITH THAT 2ND ORIGINAL FLAG STILL ON IT! When the 2nd HISTORIC FLAG was removed from the top of the mountain I read that a 3rd flag then took its place as the FIRST/SECOND FLAGS were brought down for SAFE KEEPING to be brought probably to the U S A*

Maybe the MARINES realized the wind blowing a certain direction would help when raising the heavy pipe with the FLAG tied on as you can see the wind helping PUSH THE HEAVY METAL POLE UP AND INTO POSITION*
