Mötley Crüe’s “Live Wire” clearly inspired this autobiographical glam punk song, written on the streets of Hollywood. The Sunset Strip was the Lürxx’ Boulevard of Broken Dreams, where they “talked so bad and acted so mean” like Andy McCoy wrote in the Hanoi Rocks song. But it wasn’t all broken dreams - they did get back on their feet and off the streets and were adopted by the Hollywood glam punk scene. Moving out to Hollywood was a dream come true and the feeling of being wild, young, running free and alive was overwhelming! Having moved out to L.A. in the footsteps of their rock and roll heroes like Nikki Sixx and Izzy Stradlin, it was exhilarating to actually be able to play rock music on the Sunset Strip! During their years in Hollywood, the Lürxx were regulars at the iconic Coconut Teaszer, often playing the “Glitter and Glam Night”, where time seemed to have stood still and Twisted Sister’s “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and Mötley Crüe’s “Live Wire” would blast out into the mid-1990s Hollywood night as if it still were 1986… The band felt a strong bond to Hanoi Rocks at the time, who had also moved abroad and lived in poverty, partly on the streets, struggling to make it from one day to the next.
When Xavi and Sabú wrote the line “we’re gonna play the Whisky and the Roxy and all” it may have seemed almost impossible to achieve, seeing as they at that time were illegal immigrants, living on the streets, but they did persevere and eventually really did play the Roxy as well as another iconic venue, the Troubadour! Sharing more than just these venues with their heroes, they even ended up living in the very building that Guns N’ Roses lived in back in the mid-1980s and just a few houses down the road from Mötley Crüe’s infamous gaff.
