Kevin McCarthy fails to win majority in 12th and 13th speaker ballot | Day 4

The House of Representatives adjourned until 10 p.m. ET on Friday following several more failed attempts to elect a speaker. Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy continued to gain some GOP holdout votes in the 13th round, but still fell short of a majority. This contest marks the first time the speaker’s election has exceeded nine ballots since before the Civil War.
