I dont understand everyone bashing Chanel 5 or even saying it’s overrated. It’s so classic and smells like wealth to me!

I have the bottle.from the 80s with half a bottle still. Its my moms and she doesnt wear perfumes. Yes.. the scent is very "eastman colour".. it doesnt smell modern. It lasts very long and even lingers on the fabric after a wash. Its not something ppl may like but for some reason.. it gives a very royal feel and old feel.. so i like it.
What i have isnt a spray bottle.. so i really have no idea how old it is. It was probably gifted to my mom even before i was born !

I want to smell the Chanel number 5 from the 1921, that’s the one Marilyn Monroe used, I really want to know how she smelled 😕 I’m a huge fan as you can see haha

It's still the same scent that the perfumer Ernest Beaux created in 1921.
It was an Eau de cologne back then.
It only had 5% aromatic compound.
In the 1950's it became an Eau de Toilette with 15% aromatic compounds and finally in 1980's it became the final Eau de parfum version that we all know today which has 25% aromatic compounds.The scent itself hasn't changed significantly through the years.
Shalimar smells like leather and incense. Nothing like Chanel no.5 but it's also really strong.
I really like Chanel no.5 It's a very comforting scent for me.

my chanel collection is growing quite quickly - I have the Chanel No 5 Eau premiere and it's beautiful. Still quite mature, and definitely No 5 - esque - unmistable as Chanel, but easier to wear for sure. :)

For those who have childreen smell ur babies champoo Johnson thats how the channel number 5. these days most of parfums and makeup smells keep repeating it self so i feel Johnson baby shampoo smells exactly like channel number5

You can still purchase the original Chanel no. 5. The pure parfum (the small bottle with no sprayer) is the original from 1921.

I didn't even think to buy n5 when I was in my 20s, I bought my first bottle when I was 35 I think and I must say I enjoy it. It is very comforting, daily scent, powdery, aldehydes, a bit of vanilla, a bit of rose, jasmine, a bit of citruses, I own a lot of different perfumes, but with this one I can relax and feel elegant :-).

This smells soapy on me. Its powdery and I can definitely smell the ilang-ilang. Its likeable but I wouldnt wear it out since Ive got better scents to wear. But yes, this does smell and feel great to sleep with lol

I tried to love Chanel 5 but I couldn’t. To me it smelled like grandma. I know that’s me but I didn’t like it. I love coco mademoiselle for the mature crowd. I’m more a sweet and/or floral type of gal.

I think the expensive tiny 7.5ml and 15 ml pure Parfum bottles are meant to be close to the original earnest beaux / fragrance . I guess it will be a bit different because many ingredients are no longer used Or allowed but generally it’s similar. The edt version is also supposed to be similar to the original edt that came out all those years ago. It’s the EDP that is different, a 1980s creation, I personally love it but it’s quite different to the edt and pure Parfum so some people are not as keen, but as I say yummy in my mind. Best to try a bit of each version in testers first I guess to c what one meshes with your skin chemistry best. No 5 is powdery musky and only a touch floral, it’s stunningly beautiful on the right person, very sexy. I’ve got a lot of Chanel Dior and Tom fords etc but no 5 my hubby said smells lovely and he always mentions how nice I smell when I wear it in any version. No 5 is not the top seller it is for nothing, it’s truly is a perfect perfume, but it was the Russian Royal Family’s personal perfumer who made it originally so I think it’s why it’s such quality. If you are not a fan of the edp try the Parfum in tiny bottles it’s more creamy and less musky, with a touch of lemon. Beautiful. The edp is darker more toffee kinda amber quality. The edt is crisper and bright, the elixir more woody and very powdery....all are yummy :)

Im aquarius and i loved no 5 i bough it from maycys...i didnt like coco mademoiselle..and other chanel s perfume in store.i dont know why only no5 makes me feel good.jil sander 4 my fav too..i love classsic perfumes ..

I sprayed Chanel No 5 & Coco Mademoiselle on test strips at the store. I think the Coco Mademoiselle smells a lot like the No. 5 but it has that note that reminds me of cough drops, like a menthol or eucalyptus that I don't like. I don't know what that is but I dislike it. I like no. 5 better.
