Watching a truly skilled faller is pure artistry. The walk around the tree...sighting angle and best location. The ground around...and the escape route. Then the hungry rumble of the tool, the chips flying, the heavy 'crack' of the tree's last gasp and the earthshaking landing. The Dad IS an artist. Did you watch the tree near the end straddle two live ones without damage to either?

I live in Western Washington and Douglas Fir is our primary 'money' tree. I once watched two fallers bet their drop zone. Closest buys the beer sort of thing. Each took a survey stick, walked 150' out from the butt, drove the stake in the ground. Grinned (evil grins they were), fired up their tools and dropped their trees. The winner actually DROVE his stake into the ground...loser walked away muttering under his breath "Six inches. Six lousy inches" That's why they get the big bucks 😉

Having worked a good part of my life in the lumber industry, well as a non adult too, I can tell you that I truly love it all. From the forest to the sawmill. The sights, sounds and, for some reason, especially the smells. Unfortunately, here in Montana, the timber industry is dying, we've lost two large mills in the last 6 months. Good jobs for good people. That being said, it does open up more opportunities for smaller sawmill like yourself. Keep up the good work!🤙
