This book made me feel stupid and desire a class on it, but preferably without having to read it again.

Gould's book of Fish is one of the best books I've read. To be honest the plot does jump around a bit however it's a rich depiction of a convicts life in Tasmania. The fact that it is written in an unusual and non-lineal way adds to it's appeal and originality so I wholeheartedly recommend reading it ..

I've heard that, too. Some booktubers say they only review books they liked/would recommend.
And when it comes to admitting to not understand something, I'm an experienced idiot ;) No honestly, I am angry when I don't get things in books, especially since I studied literature and think I should, but I don't have a problem admitting I didn't. Because how is someone going to explain it to you, if they don't know you're clueless? Maybe it's age that makes me more relaxed about that.

I can't really remember, I heard about it years ago, probably when it came out. I was always intrigued by the cover and the title, and I've had it in hands more than once in different stores before actually buying it.
It is very postmodern, which I normally really like!

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING! How could I forget that?
I always think there must be something wrong with me, if I don't like a book that has won awards...but maybe we just can't like/understand everything ;)

true.., it's just that i've heard quite a few people (no idea who anymore though..) say in like a wrap up or something that they didn't like it very much and because of that won't do a review of it. 1/2

2/2i've also noticed (not nessesarily on booktube) that people don't like admitting to not understanding something. like it would be their fault if they don't understand the book (and don't like to admit to that) while it might just be the book/writing style that is the problem or maybe it just wasn’t the right book for you. Like some are good at science while others can learn new languages easily.

That's too bad about the book. I hate when a book gets so confusing like that. I wonder if it's the book or me just not getting it. Sounds like the author got lost in the multitude of stories he was telling, and you, the reader, got lost along the way. GPS needed with this book!

I think the best way to read this book is to not try to hard to understand whats going on. Just read and imagine, for the book is all about imagination. What ever conclusion you come to is fine as long as you enjoyed it.

What, I don't get a "thanks for watching" at the end of the video? CONFUSING! :P

But in all seriousness, I hate it when I read books and I feel like I'm completely missing the point and end up all confused. Recently I got a collection of short stories from a local author Yasuko Thanh (sp?) about where I live and I read the one that won an award and just... didn't understand why it won anything. I'm going to give it another try before I do a review on it. I like how you do good & bad reviews.

Thanks, but that's why we watch reviews, isn't it? To get an idea if we want to read the book or not.

I think sometimes authors (and editors) forget that books are for readers, not for other writers.

I’ve tried and failed twice to read it, I might try again as it annoys me that I don’t get it 😂

Yeah, it was a little too much show off of writing skills.
