This is the sacrement of confession. Because Saint Dismas confessed his sins before God and said that he is guilty and asks christ to remember him, that is why Christ brought him to heaven. Because he put his faith in him and in his final moments he was willing to make that extra step to not only accept christ as God but to accept his authority of the forgiveness of sins through repentance. Roman Catholicism emphasizes confessing to a priest. Not all catholic denominations do this you have eastern and maronite catholics who don't do this at all. But in actuality the priest is supposed to be present but it is God who you are confessing to and the priest is present but gives no judgment. He can give helpful suggestions to lead you closer to God to avoid that sin and that temptation but it is God who forgives your sins. It is God who evaluates you.

He said that to the criminal because they were dying. That was it for thier lives. People like us not dying on a cross have to realize that you know your a sinner and pray, pray to the Lord for forgiveness and ask Jesus Christ to come into your heart and change you and make you whole. Love God! I really do love God and Jesus and to this day until I die it saddens me to think about what Jesus went through just to save humanity. God love's humanity for giving his only son to die on a cross for humanities sins.
