A lawsuit from NYCLU against the New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, or DOCCS, uncovered a disturbing truth: New York prisons are quietly using facial recognition technology on visitors.

Facial recognition is flawed, and particularly ineffective when used against Black people and other people of color. When a scan mistakenly flags a visitor, it turns them away. This is especially cruel when you consider that often people travel for hours to see their loved ones, and visits from family and friends are a vital lifeline for people in prison.

New York prisons have no business deploying racially-biased, flawed technology to needlessly separate families.

Ask the other important questions. As the owner of a Cybersecurity and Forensics service provider, might I offer...
1. Who else, outside the Department of Corrections receives the scan metadata and what have these institutions(s) reported they are doing with this metadata?
2. What system is being used to identify scanned images and transfer that data into metadata? (You'll likely find their service provider predominantly servicing the casinos.
3. How many points of identification is the service provider using to quantify a 'positive identification'?
