The electric potential at a point in space indicates how much potential energy a coulomb of charge would have at that point. Its units are joules per coulomb, also called volts.

Khan Academy is a nonprofit organization with the mission of providing a free, world-class education for anyone, anywhere. We offer quizzes, questions, instructional videos, and articles on a range of academic subjects, including math, biology, chemistry, physics, history, economics, finance, grammar, preschool learning, and more. We provide teachers with tools and data so they can help their students develop the skills, habits, and mindsets for success in school and beyond. Khan Academy has been translated into dozens of languages, and 15 million people around the globe learn on Khan Academy every month. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we would love your help!

Floatheadphysics 😮
The only man on this entire internet and literally on earth who makes anyone love physics.

He explains the concepts as if he is teaching to an beginner

Thanks mahesh

After 14 years of study i didn't get it. But now it's crystal clear to me what is potential energy. Thanks a lot for the resources I am grateful to khan academy & Mahesh sir

Using his gravitational analogy one could have been more succinct.
If Mgh represents gravitational potential energy (PE), Voltage is analogous to the "gh" bit or gravitational acceleration x height in the direction of acceleration. In electricity gravitational acceleration is represented by electric field E (which also is acceleration) and height by d (displacement) along the E direction. Just as multiplying gh by mass = Mgh (gravitational potential energy) so multiplying Ed by Q = QEd = electrical potential energy. The "Ed" bit is also called Voltage or EMF. Thats it in a paragraph
Recapping, the "gh" bit is analogous to Ed or Voltage or EMF or "POTENTIAL". Multiplying by Q gives Electrical Potential Energy = QEd = QV

does that mean my fat friend sitting next to me is more energetic than me, as Potential Energy depends on mass?😂
