Amid Trump tariffs, fans in Canada boo U.S. national anthem before Red Wings vs. Canucks game

Fans at Rogers Arena booed the U.S. anthem a day after President Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on Canada.

The boos began as soon as anthem singer Agasha Mutesasira began singing the anthem prior to puck drop between the Detroit Red Wings and Vancouver Canucks. It continued throughout the song — at times louder than others — and didn't abate until near the end, when it appeared fans were applauding the singer, not the song.

Gotta love the fact that there was booing, but we were still nice enough to give the singer a clap at the end. That's who we are. It wasn't her fault she had to sing it to an angry audience.

In my close to 60 years, never did I imagine Canadians would turn on America to this extent. I attended a social function last night to celebrate Scottish-Canadian heritage and the talk of the entire evening was how to stop any and all purchase of American goods and people cancelling trips south of the border in favour of other nations.

When I was young, we all admired America and looked up to Americans for their leadership and vision. No one is doing that today - the USA seems like a shadow of its former self. A failed state in disarray, breaking solemn treaties and agreements with their closest allies. It's sickening to watch how far Trump's America has fallen. When you've lost Canada you've lost everyone.
