HQ M3 Grant WWII Medium Tank Walkaround
Показать описание
The M3 ‘Grant’ was a medium tank M3 with a British turret variant. It was developed quickly by the US Army who had a great need for an effective tank at the start of WWII and first saw production by late 1940. The first version, Grant Mk I, saw combat with the British Army for the first time in early 1942. They saw extensive and effective combat in North Africa until withdrawn from service with the British Army by the surrender of the Germans in Africa by 1943. The M4 Sherman filled the Allied need for firepower and infantry support, but the M3 continued to serve effectively in the Pacific and though declared obsolete in 1944, was used by Allied forces in Burma and through until the end of the war in September 1945.
The M3 grant was built for a crew of 6, a driver, commander, gunner and loader, upper gunner, and a machine-gun servant. It stands nearly 10 feet (3m) high, which proved problematic in combat. Weighing in at a cool 26 tons (28000 kg) combat loaded, it was powered by a 9 cyl Wright Continental R975 EC2 air cooled engine and had a maximum speed of 24 mph (38 km/h). Armed with a 75mm M2 cannon on the right front of the hull and a 37 M5 or M6 cannon in the turret, it could also carry two three .30 cal machine guns, with one mounted coaxially in the turret and the others in the front plate of the hull.
Armor thickness ranged from 2-3in in the front, 2.0-1.5 in inn the side, and 2.0-1.5 in at the rear.
