What The Heck Is An ATS Compliant Resume???

Do I NEED two versions of my resume? Ehhhh.... not really.

While having a PRIMARY resume that can be quickly edited / tailored towards specific roles, the idea of an "ATS Compliant" resume is weird.

Typically, we see what you upload. HOWEVER - the ATS (which again, are generally archaic digital filing cabinets) can't always PARSE your information well.

In that case, it's not the worst idea to have a text version JUST for yourself. Check out this video for how to use it.

I had a resume writer add all the bells and whistles in my resume. It never parsed right and barely getting interviews.

I pretty much rewrote the resume with none of the bells and whistles and it parses right and getting a better response rate.

I don't know how the "two versions of resume" morphed into one that needs to be ATS compliant, one that is for humans. *sigh*. When job seekers are hell-bent on using the god-awful Marissa Mayer-style resume, I and some of my colleagues say "sure, you can use that for networking where you literally print it off and hand it to someone - physically, " which is code for "don't use that style of resume to actually apply because it sucks." But this has nothing to do with ATS. It has everything to do with that resume doesn't permit you to tell enough of your story, looks like crap, and makes for a difficult read.

I'm all for the minimalist resume, and that's what I produce. Thanks for confirming that I'm on the right track and not crazy for not wasting my time on design LOL.

Bullhorn is one of the systems that I used and it actually parses the information and put it into the fields. That is why I always suggest that candidates use a word file. It has a word editor

I know I needed to review this video and I'm glad I did. Amy please help me understand this: in the resume my "success stories" are summarized on the top and so I don't add those bullets in to their respective roles section. But the ATS doesn't have a portion for the "Career Summery" section. Please what do you advice in this case? Thanks for all your help!

I'm going to add my 2 cents here: Maybe it's not the ATS parsing, which okay can be a pain sometimes, maybe it's your spam inbox drowning my emails trying to schedule an interview.
