If student loans are so harmful that we need to forgive them, why are we STILL giving out student loans?

I dropped out of college after freshman year and I make six figures today. Students should know that going to college shouldn't be treated as a necessity but rather as an investment for their decision. If you aren't getting a job or finding way to pay it back, you've made a bad decision to go.

Im not sure why student loans is the issue. It's the colleges and universities charging and arm and a leg for an education

Government feeds the revenue to the Universities. They can control tuition cost. Otherwise they can tell the Universities they will be excluded from the federal student loan program. It can be done.

Seems kinda unfair that I am currently working two jobs so we can send our daughter to college debt free and these folks get to have the full college experience for free on the backs of tax payers. How about paying what you owe and not overpaying for a degree. Total BS.

High school teachers: forcing you to go to college
Also highschool teachers: in debt till this day

Why should others be taxed to pay for another's education they received no benefit from? Over 40% of the population already goes to college, it's not like we need to subsidize education so more people attend. And way way too many students go to Ivy leque schools to get a job paying $40k a year. We shouldn't be punished for 18 year olds not thinking things thru

I am so proud of myself. I ended up with 28 in debt and next month I will be able to pay them off for good. It took me three years but for a year and a few months, I was paying 1k and sometimes 2k each month. Also, I had to pay 2k in interest.

Do not pay off student loans. That would not be fair to all responsible people

I DON'T CARE WHAT STUDENTS OWE FOR THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION - IT WAS THE STUDENTS AND/OR THEIR PARENTS IRRESPONSIBLE DECISION TO TAKE ON THEIR PERSONAL DEBT!!

NOW PAY BACK WHAT YOU SAID YOU'D DO!!

So if someone didn't went to college they don't have student loans so this doesn't concern them... As simple as that

Why is the government still making these loans if they are so toxic Oh, they want a permanent underclass.

Everyone that didn't go to college should enroll in a basket weaving class and borrow $50k so that Biden can pay it back. I'm going to and then I'll use that money to buy a third rental property.

So basically every college's graduates have got something to say about "the college experience" not being worth it.

My family and I paid $50k for my degree. Paid it off by working full time while in college. Will those of us that were responsible get $10k? Doubt it.

This to me just sounds like a bunch of kids who didn’t read the fine print of the loan and they graduate and it’s time to pay up and they want somebody to save them .. student loan are a trap yes but instead of cry why me educate yourself before you sign something … student loans one thing you can’t declare bankruptcy on

Pay up you profited from loans that were low interest. I was never afforded a student loan.
I never progressed in my career and now you give the store away.

smart enough to graduate college but not smart enough to not take the loans.

You going to forgive my house loan? It is not extravagant and I think it only has 45 to 50, 000 left on it. House (shelter) is a requirement for life. College is not. I paid for my college, they can pay for theirs. I, like them chose to attend the schools I went to.

I can’t be the only one who rolls their eyes at the whole “but all our teachers and high school counselors told us to go!” excuse. If you are under the age of 35 you had access to Google. If you lacked the basic observational skills to think “hmm, maybe I should do a bit of independent research on my own instead of blindly listening to people so bereft of talent they ended up as high school counselors making 30k a year”, that’s on you.

While I agree the cost of college is ridiculous, how things “should be” is completely irrelevant to responsible decision making. To be frank if you were gullible enough to somehow find yourself six figures in debt, you’ll likely just find another way to ruin your life soon.
