I’m loving your videos. I’m american but I’ve been taking a deeper dive into French history. I understand why everything happened but I get SO sad thinking about how much was lost during the revolution. Important archives, buildings, artifacts, heck even the royal tombs were destroyed, so much important historical stuff I wish we had the chance to still see.

So nice to find these small docs on France in English. Just what I needed. I wouldn’t mind more detailed and longer docs if you are up to it.

The French revolution did not need to happen. England at the time had a larger national debt than France. And they had just lost a catastrophic war. The people of France in 1789 were calm, with only Paris agitated by jealous and opportunistic lawyers like Robespierre and Danton. Louis XVI committed so many disastrous mistakes of judgement by not knowing if he was on the side of the old order or the new revolutionary movement.

A more apathetic king like Louis XV or Louis XIV would have suited France in this situation. They wouldve just cohorted with their mistresses and let the pieces fall where they may. Louis XVI sadly was genuinely compassionate towards the welfare of the French. And this quality was the worst you can have if you will ever be the king of France.

Louis tried to handle the financial crisis the best he could, proposing the nobles pay equal taxes. He didn't fire at the masses. Obeyed their every command. Yet he faced execution of entire family. He could have been exiled forever, no need for the bloodshed. He was humble and loyal to France.

I know this is just a brief synopsis of events but my mind just swirls with imagery. I try to envision the people, streets, mobs, torches, anger and the French Royal Family during your dialogue. What could it have been like to be in the middle of all of this with the French Court?

I always felt bad for Louis….I suspect he knew he aware enough that he knew just was not able to fulfill the task he was given and that is pretty much the definition of “stress.” Not to mention just like extroverts hating quarantine, being King for a seeming introvert must have been hard.

Hi, awesome live history video I enjoyed it. How are you and cute Rani your cat doing? I'm doing well. My cat Benjamin says hi to you and cute Rani, your cat, he sends his purrs. My cat Benjamin hates when it rains outside. He hids under the bed. Does Rani your cat hid when it rains.? We have lots of rain today in Canada. How is the weather where you are? Where are you going on vacation? Have a great vacation. See you next video 😊

I think this Louis would wince at any title which included the word “headed” too close for comfort.

Louis just was not the brightest person. SMH. He should have listened to his advisors and saved himself and the horror his children were subjected to. His EGO got the better of him.

Louis XVI was scholarly but he lacked common sense which is necessary for those in leadership...

Louis He should’ve stuck to his guns with sticking by Necker could’ve fixed half his finance issues…and the disastrous escape attempt I watched in a documentary around 2.5-3 million euros in todays prices. In addition when the mob stormed the Tulleries palace they didn’t go after the female members of the court they said “we don’t murder women” that should’ve been taken as a moment to flee for safety when it was a offer that still had some honor and validity to it especially by the Princess de Lambelle before the murderous slaughter of the September massacres
