MYSTERIOUS SOS SIGN ON MOUNT ASAHIDAKE
Показать описание
Daisetsuzan National Park is home to one of Japan's most intriguing mysteries, known as the Mount Asahidake SOS incident. On July 24, 1989, a rescue team searching for missing hikers near Mount Asahidake discovered a large SOS sign made from birch logs. The sign, each letter measuring about 16 feet long, was spotted from the air, but the hikers rescued nearby claimed no knowledge of the sign, which had actually been in place since at least 1987.
Further investigation led to the discovery of human remains and personal items near the SOS sign. These included cassette tapes, a tape recorder, a skull, and a driver's license belonging to Kenji Iwamura, a 25-year-old office worker who had gone missing in 1984. Initial examinations mistakenly identified the remains as belonging to a woman, adding to the confusion and mystery surrounding the case.
The cassette tapes contained a recording of a man desperately calling for help, believed to be Iwamura, although his parents could not confirm if the voice was his. The SOS sign's creation remains puzzling, as it would have required significant effort and tools, which were not found at the site. This led to speculation about whether Iwamura was alone or if there were other unknown individuals involved.
The case remains unsolved, with many questions about the circumstances of Iwamura's disappearance and the creation of the SOS sign left unanswered. It continues to be a subject of fascination and speculation among those interested in mysterious outdoor incidents.
