France midfield is much better at transitions and they seem incapable of replacing Pogba who remains their best passer. Furthermore, they simply can't create a tempo of their own. They need their club manager to create the tempo. They also need the other team to create a tempo they can counter with fast transitions. I guess the biggest problems with all the best teams in the world playing high-pressing, quick transitions, possession futbol is that those patterns of play are impossible to create at the International level with strangers. Top clubs play with not even quite a tempo but a rythm that stems from the manager and against an international low-block that rythm is implausible. Futbol is so robotic, so heavily programmed, so manager heavy that when confronted by a low-block with your fellow country man you don't know what to do. What modern futbol has done is take away improvasional aspects of futbol. As an Arsenal fan I am reminded of just how dominating Arteta's ideas as because Rice simply can't think the game for himself. Brazil also reminded me of just how important club managers are because they've also removed the improv aspect of Brazilian futbol. Spain is able to generate tempo because of their use of the fubol: it's cultural for them to keep the ball with care and create tempo with the ball. The princples are set.
