Dear friends, and family of the heart. We represent a new NGO in Norway. We call ourselves Born Free, or Født Fri in Norwegian.
We are new, but the fight is very old.
Older than the idea of honor and shame. Older than the first human families. It is the awareness of non-violence.
The awareness connected to our existence. Us being humans.
Our responsibility to take action and spread this awareness whenever and wherever we can.
To stop crime rooted in honor and shame we need to demand a change in mentality, change in our hearts, and light the torch of awareness and compassion. Because this will never happen by itself.
We are here to support all those unlived lives, that had the right to flourish and be free but never were allowed to.
We are here to support all of you who are living proof that Fadime is not alone.
Fadime was never alone. Her vision, her wishes, her dreams are shared by millions, here and now. Today we are in a position to show our support in public. And we are not afraid. We are a growing community of awareness, compassion and action.
But we feel the pain, we grieve over people we have lost.
Fadime died but the honor and shame violence she was the victim of, persists.
The nature of it is destructive, blind and leading us to cultural collective suicide, if we don`t speak out and stop it.
We have to protect the nature in our self. Therefore we have to keep standing strong.
Both men and women are victims of this violence. But the time has come to form bonds cross-border in order to stop what is wrong, and show how many we are.
We are many. Many voices who never will be silenced, not now, not after we are gone. Fadime is gone, but she still speaks through us.
For all that fear this culture of control and violence planted in any child's heart, in the mind of any teenager who fell in love, in the daily life of any family who live in fear of what other people will say:
We will raise our voices and tell them:
To create a new borderless togetherness where we will never look back to shame, honour, violence, control and killings. Aware of what true families are made of. This is us today. We are here and we are not going anywhere.
- Welcome home. Welcome home to your own body, welcome home to your freedom and joy, your fundamental rights to live your own life, your birthright.
- We salute everyone, men and women, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, who are here today, in loving memory of our angel of freedom, Fadime.
