Exactly how to Dice and Julienne an Onion Like a Pro!

"Welcome to the food shop! Today, we're going to master the art of dicing and julienning an onion. Whether you're a seasoned chef or just starting out, these techniques will elevate your cooking game. So, let's dive in!"

Step 1: Preparing the Onion
"Start by selecting a fresh, firm onion. Start by locating the stem part on the onion and cut it off. Flip the onion on the freshly cut stem side down flat on the cutting board with the root facing upward. Slice the onion down through the center of the root cutting the onion into two equal parts. Peel off the outer skin. This will make it easier to handle while dicing."

Step 2: Dicing the Onion
"Place the onion on the cutting board with the flat, cut side down. Hold the onion firmly with your non-dominant hand, using your fingertips to guide the knife."

"Make vertical cuts across the onion, but not all the way through, leaving the root end intact. Then, make two horizontal cuts parallel to the cutting board."

"Finally, make vertical cuts perpendicular to your previous cuts, resulting in evenly-sized onion dice. Keep your fingers curled under for safety."

Step 3: Julienning the Onion
"Start by halving the onion lengthwise, keeping the root end intact. Lay one half flat on the cutting board, cut side down."

The horizontal cuts aren't really necessary though, the onion already has layers so just cut toward the root and then start chopping. Time saved!
