Yup, 40 year gardener here and that’s how I feel about my weeds. Green gold. I use all of your techniques and even grow a weed garden where I allow certain weeds to grow and then I mulch them with grass and leaf mold and compost. They are absolutely stunning and in flowering stage, the insects love them as do I. I tell people the birds planted the garden while the plant devas tend to them and I water and mulch around them.

I let one single weed take over my entire backyard this year in Arizona. I just removed it this week. It was a ground cover weed at least 25ft across. It started growing when I drained my pond water into my fire pit. It grew ferociously for 5 months, growing up the walls and onto my porch! I wanted to push that weed to an extreme that I didn’t know was possible. Thousands of little flowers. And it became a feeding ground for dozens of little birds. Of course it couldn’t have been possible without God’s generous supply of rain water this summer !

The ole permaculture adage “the problem is the solution.” My first job out of college was as a weeder on a 16 acre daylily breeder’s farms. We made massive piles that rotted down into great soil.

I upcycled my kids' old wagon for gardening too! My heart is happy to see that I'm not the only one!

Hi David. I don't 'weed's anymore. I 'harvest high value nitrogen.' Yep, it gets composted in my "Compost Everything" pile. Spoiled milk, meat, stale breads and chips, old dry beans and pasta, ALL OF THE KITCHEN SCRAPS go in that compost.👍😎👍

KEY TIP: If you call or stop by your local lumber company, they may just have giant FREE tarps that come covering their lumber deliveries. They are not always in perfect condition, but they are AMAZING for heating up your compost piles (or your freshly mulched beds) that will force any weed seeds to germinate fast. Leave the tarp on longer than that, and you will cook them. Ta Da, seed free mulch! Use the black (or darkest color possible) side up to produce the most heat. You can also cut these traps to the exact size of your raised beds and reuse them every Winter. Just clear and mulch your beds in the Fall, tarp them for the Winter, and by Spring you can just remove your tarps and start planting ! The more prep you do in the Fall, the less rushing around you have to do in the Early Spring. Happy gardening!

I like to use a modified version of #5. I'll call it the "Pull and drop." You pull the weeds up so you get the roots out of the ground and then you drop 'em to slowly add back to the soil.

Excellent content today, DTG! Love it! Btw, my best friend's son asked me, "have you ever heard of David the Good"? My beaming smile said it all! "...as a matter of fact..." Thanks for all you do...sharing your knowledge & humor have been a great blessing to me!

This was very neat!!! I live on 5 acres of powdery, hard, lime stone white clay. Nothing grows in it, but we cut the few grasses it grows and gather bags of leaves and clippings from neighborhoods and spread them all over the yard...it has made a huge difference from the time we moved in 15 years ago. Thank you!!

I have learned to love my weeds. In my food forest / garden area I compost the grass weeds, chop and drop the invasive germs, while letting the clover, plantain, self heal, violets and purslane stay for food and medicinal benefits, and great for pollinators.

That opening had me 😅! Great video. I got a torch because of you... need a little rain though, the woods are getting to grow back faster than I can clear the left over logging wood on the ground. I don't want to be that person who has to call the fire department, lol!

Thank u for verifying what I thought should be possible… people don’t understand how important weeds actually are

This year I've been using them as a straw-like mulch on my annual beds. I'll rake in the seeds and lay the pulled weeds in a thin layer, which retains moisture long enough for the seeds to germinate while withering away enough in time to allow the seedlings to poke through.

My first time seeing any of your videos, thank you.
So intelligent to use what's causing problems, to fertilize with, these uses for weeds are great. I loved the song and humor, but especially like feeding your enemies to your plants. Thanks for sharing!

I recently learned that most of the weeds we have, are edible (if they’re harvested early). I’ve been stumped on what to do with them after I’ve pulled them out or cut them down because I don’t want weeds growing in our compost. All of my weed anxiety vanished while watching this video 🥰👏🏻😁 Thank you! This is a gem❣️👊🏻

I learn so much from you! And with humor and song.
