Do you know why Oklahoma is shaped like a literal frying pan?

This land extension often known as the Panhandle was part of Texas when Texas was its own independent nation. But in 1845, when Texas decided to join the United States, a new challenge arose. The Missouri Compromise was in place, which prohibited slavery north of the 36.5° parallel, and Texas was a slaveholding territory. Since part of its land stretched above that line, Texas had to give up all this land. This area became known as "No Man's Land" unclaimed, until the Homestead Act.
which allowed anyone who settled on unorganized land for five years to own 160 acres.
The act sparked a land rush, with thousands rushing to occupy "No Man's Land"
This unclaimed land became part of Oklahoma Territory and later Oklahoma
