They lose their faith when they realize Joseph Smith is actually Joseph's Myth.

I asked my mom about her opinion about this last night. According to her, egyptologists are ALL wrong or it not saying what it was supposed to say is antichurch lies. It is wild how deep some people are in "the church is never wrong."

This video caused an epiphany in me. I learned in seminary that Joseph wouldn’t translate the lost 116 pages again because it there were any differences between the original and second translations, it would discredit the Book of Mormon. Even as a 14 year old, I thought, “Why would there be any differences if they are both inspired by God?” I later served a mission and was married in the temple before leaving the church at age 25. You video made me realize that my first moment of doubt and the beginning of my faith crisis was that day in seminary when I was 14.

I was discussing with a Mormon about their use of Hebrew words being inaccurate... He told me they (the world outside Mormonism, I'm guessing) made up the Hebrew language to try to debunk Joseph Smith. People made up a whole language to disprove Joseph Smith! That level of cognitive dissonance is crazy!

I had missionaries come to my house, and they were shocked that I knew about The Pearl of Great Price. I told them I don’t believe in it. They just defended it and left.

I had been studying Egyptian mythology for fun, when I opened my Pearl of Great Price after not reading it for a while... my brain went wait... those are canopic jars... it's Sobek in the Nile... and Horis... and good God am I the only one seeing this. Online search and my shelf shattered.
It had been cracking but this was the death nell of my faith.

Which is bold evidence that latter-day saints are 100% nuts.

The reason I started losing my faith was because I got my patriarchal blessing when I was 14 and for years I just felt like the woman in that blessing was not me. I felt like I was reading somebody else's story. That led me to Center every decision I made around becoming the woman in that blessing. It wasn't happening and I just assumed that there was something wrong with me and my faith and all my hard work. And I was Hardcore Mormon, I graduated Seminary Institute at Collins I was endowed in the temple, but I finally decided to step away and figure out what my own life was outside of it. Then I did research on Joseph Smith and whatever was left my testimony was just gone

I have a friend who grew up in the church, went to college for botany, started learing about genetics then did a haplogroup comparison of Native American tribes and hebres and they did not match up with their claimed origins of being descendants of the Lost Tribes of Israel.

Disproving the dogma of the church and leading him to become an aethist, pretty fucking impressive if you ask me.

The church has even admitted the translations do not match. Mormon apologists will try explaining it away in a dozen ways. None of which really make sense to me. Or anyone who looks at it objectively.

I grew up hyperfixated on ancient Egyptian history. I used to know how to read and write in minimal hieroglyphs as a child. I saw that specific facsimile and went “hang on…” that was my first inkling.

I always wonder why Abraham would write anything in Egyptian. Why wouldn't it have been in Hebrew?

Never trust a traveling salesman: if their products were legit, they wouldn't need to travel to different places to sell them. People would come to them...

in highschool i was forced to go to seminary and church by my dad, and in seminary they talked about this. I immediately knew it was bullshit just because of the picture (the one in the start of the video) because when I was in middle school I was such a ancient civilizations nerd (and I had an amazing teacher that taught all that stuff) that I recognized the canopic jars underneath. I don't remember what they said about it, because I ignored everything said in there, and I was muttering under my breath that Smith is just a con man because to me it looked like a mummification record. (I don't remember what it actually is, but it sure as hell wasn't whatever they told us it was)

What I find interesting with how Joseph Smith started with his religious journey is that he got these dreams/visions of the gold whatever but ultra religious people nowadays would call people with visions crazy and unfit to be in society. His whole story and the story so many stand by is full of so many contradictions

I’m astonished that anyone could find Mormonism compelling even without this video’s argument.
