Chrystia Freeland defends the key interest rate hike

The Bank of Canada raised its key interest rate by a quarter-percentage point today, marking the first interest rate change since the central bank announced a pause earlier this year.

The rate now sits at 4.75 per cent, the highest it’s been since April 2001.

The Bank of Canada says its governing council determined interest rates are not high enough to rebalance the economy and bring inflation back to the two per cent target.

Well nothing will change. Whats the point of paying taxes in a country you'll never be able to afford a home? There is none !!! Nothing will change. SAVE UP AND LEAVE THE COUNTRY. CANADA IS DONE.

Someone should ask her a real question about her attending the World Economic forum

You cannot compare us to other countries. We have a ton of variable rates. Houses here are insanely expensive. Salaries here are not as high. Taxes here are insane! This woke government making us broke!

That’s what you get when you have a journalist who specializes in Russian literature to be finance minister, totally unqualified

Her logic is like telling someone in a violent relatioship that you know that you only have one black eye but there is a lady in southafrica that has two black eyes. How does the fact that other people are screwing up their economy justify that you can screw up ours

Low stable inflation🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 2019 10 pound bag of potatoes $1.99cad today 2023 $5.99cad for 10 pound bag of potatoes. There is nothing stable about inflation.

Freeland doesn't know what inflation, interest, or a budget is.

There’s no way we’re hitting 3% this summer. Literally mathematically incorrect statement. Can’t stand when she compares Canada to other countries. There are so many factors. We have a fraction of the innovative businesses/technology that those countries have and their higher interest rates are for certain reasons. We’re in the state we are because we’ve had too low of interest rates for too long and we have no productive business in Canada. Residential real estate is the bulk of our gdp, which is an unproductive asset. She needs to step down.

Can only last 20 seconds of listening to her.
What she is saying if yall want to skip listening to her is the tax payers will get no help and the lower class will get more hand out so prepare for more taxes to be taken off your cheques.

Slowing down inflation doesn't mean prices will go down, they will just stay unaffordable at a slower rate.

Freeland and the Bank of Canada just slowly tightening down the screw on Canadians with their inflationary spending and the interest rate hikes

How ridiculous? Now she is going to blame it on people when they loose their jobs.

No Christia - job market for decently paid jobs is extremely difficult. Layoffs are happening everywhere and no hiring in most places.

This idea of comparing Canada to other mega economies is unbelievable, just because they have higher interest rates doesn’t mean people should be okay or thankful for that, what a joke, ur priorities are here and only here do what’s best for the people here and now not say “oh relax, it could be worse”

"it is almost over" - been hearing this since 2020 from Freeland. People are about to loose it all, the only thing that looks over is Canada. If we go into a recession, I hope Canada ends and people line up to get a piece of Freeland and Trudy. This is what they deserve for bankrupting Canadians.

A lot of jobs? Lol most of the jobs out there are casual or part time so companies don’t have to pay for benefits etc. Salaries are also low and don’t match with inflation . She kept saying we are near the end of all of this and that is what they said back in February.

While you're at it, maybe remind them that you need to cut Disney Plus to save money lol.
