I am a big fan of VLC so I thought I could use it to RIP some old CDs I found. I found this after googling, but after several attempts, I was unable to rip a single track using VLC. I then thought i'd just try opening one of the CDs in Media player. Lo and behold, there was the option right before me to RIP CD. I clicked it and it ripped each track, using the actual names for each. So easy. Maybe this was not the case a couple of years ago, but it certainly is today. There are also RIP options to choose between various formats etc. Again, very easy and intuitive. No need to google to try to find out "how to".

I know VLC is quite powerful but I've always thought the interface could be made much more intuitive.

Thank you sir, I wanted to release my old demo out into the world and had someone rip the audio from the cd for me and it was all clicky and hissy, so I did it myself following your instructions and it worked!!! thank you so much! I thought my cd was too old and scratched to recover anything for a sec!

Thank you so much for the help! I'm using audio CDs to learn Navajo and it's been a bit of a pain to constantly have to attach the CD drive to my laptop anytime I want to use the CD. This will save me a lot of time!

I listened at .75 speed and that was just right!! ---After you load your CD, Make Sure the VLC Display says the name of each Track is "Audio CD" and not.cda or something like that.
Then do as the video instructs.

How do you rip multiple tracks at once. I don't want to do it one by one.

I'm going nuts trying to give my favorite CD a home and ready to play. Called DELL - the tech guy tried to no avail. I have windows 10. You made it simple. Thank you. Now here's hoping my laptop and Windows 10 from hell cooperate!

I do this and it does the job, however I notice the audio quality is considerably poor compared to the original; there's hissing, and "neutral" sounds like percussion adopt an unpleasant distorted tone, even at 320kpbs and 48khz sample rate. If anyone can explain this I would appreciate it, however I used Windows Media Player (yes, on Windows 10) and it worked perfectly.

Thanks for the video. Don't you need to specify in VLC settings which number track you wish to rip when you do track 5?

EXCELLENT step-by-steps instructions. 😁

I followed your instructions - and it didn't work. I followed it to the last moment - but it just created a file in the destination volder, that can't be played. (win 10). Something tells me 'they' have made something to stop people from ripping cd's (!)

How do you BATCH RIP the ENTIRE CD using VLC and Windows 10 pc? One track at a time is worthles. Also, how to preserve track breaks when doing this?

OK this driving me mad. I followed the exact process with the exact same settings and when it completed it showed a file in MPEG layer 3 format which is what I'm trying to get around cos when that's copied to a flash drive for the car it doesn't read it. Also tried with Windows media player and although I'm asking for mp3 format the result is a MPEG file.

I find it crazy that even still you have to do one track at a time. You'd think with all the power VLC has, it would provide an option to rip an entire CD in one go.

Thanks for the video, thanks for the easy-to-follow explanation! However, unfortunately I didn't manage to rip my CD. One 'ripped' mp3 track supplies the info that VLC could not identify the audio or video codec (although I didn't change the settings once set according to your instruction!), other tracks start playing but I can't hear anything. (And no, it's not the volume being low.)
I am wondering if it's Win11 that's blocking VLC or what else might be the problem... Do you have an idea?

Is it possible to rip an entire CD, instead of just one track at a time?
