The first of two videos examining the menus in the Canon Legria HF G25 (Vixia HF G20) camcorder.

Note, you will need to have the camcorder set to Manual / Recording mode (not auto or cinema, and not playback mode) in order to access all the configuration menus as shown here.

Buy the HF-G25 via our Amazon UK link and it helps us keep the reviews going; thank you.

Even though this video is 10 years old - THANK YOU! For some reason this setting changed between filming sessions and it was driving me bonkers. I appreciate you!

These videos have done much more for me than the very basic manual that came with the camcorder. These have been written in gobbledygook as far as I'm concerned. I'm now comfortable with the settings for the machine, and am producing great home movies. A big thanks from me.

This is the best tutorial site. Every time I need to do something with the camera I search through and find this site again. Thanks heaps.

Dear David, thank you so much for all those videos about the HF-G25!! They helped me to decide to buy this cam (and they are great appetizers) and helped me to get into the handling / use now that I have the cam in my hands! I also go the same audio technica mic now.
The way you show all the functions in your videos is perfect! You give best effort! Also the way you speak (i do never listen to UK or US movies or telly cause I don't catch up with the words) is brilliant!
They only thing I was missing: an explanation of the custom wheel on the back, which seems to be the master control while shooting manually.
Thanks again! Best wishes from Heidelberg.

I recently purchased one of these from a camera shop in Sheffield. The price was really good as there was no instruction manual. Until now, I have struggled a little, but not anymore!! Excellent tuition, thank you.

I used your video to run through the menus on my Canon Legria HF41 which are very similar. It's so much easier for me to understand the functions this way than by wrestling with the manual.

Excellent video. Not many of these out there that are worth watching. I'm a beginner with this level of a camera and I want to get the initial settings correct. This video helped get me going in the right direction. The instruction manual is useless when it comes to this kind of info. Thank you for your time in assembling this video.

Thank you. The Canon manuals are actually better written than the Panasonic ones I've seen but nothing beats seeing something in action, I think.

At about 7:08 into this video, you're talking about frame rates. You have PF25 and 50i. I have four options here, 60i, PF24, PF30, and 24P. Why do my options differ? Is this based on different models between US and UK?

Hi. You're correct about the zoom and focus - and if I'm not mistaken, this is not the first Canon camcorder to have this "feature" (!). I'm pretty sure the XH-A1 was like that too. I've no idea why Canon make them like this though and I don't have a solution for you. You're not doing anything wrong though. The Photo button appears to be fixed, though it would be great if it were re-assignable. Perhaps I'll send Canon an email...

Problem solved for some reason, and as you mentioned the video conversion was set to wide. Set it to off and I'm now able to access the af mode.

Hi! I don't remember if I have already asked to you if you are using a compatible battery by Duracell that costs the half of an original Canon Battery.

Also my LCD image flips whether I have LCD Mirror marked ON or OFF. Currently, it's set to OFF and it still flips the image. I'm surprised by that. Do you know why that setting doesn't appear to batter for my camera?

Thank you for the comment! I tried to make the kind of videos that I would want to see :-)

Thank you! It's an interesting question. If you burn 30p (the US standard is 30) to a standard video DVD (like a normal DVD that you'd buy), then you might get a slightly flickery effect when played through a TV. But if you put the video on a flash drive or DVD as a file (eg mp4) and IF (big if) your TV "understands" the format, then it may play back OK. It's a bit hard to answer without knowing your TV and what format you'll put it onto the flash drive, sorry!

Hi.
Your clips were very helpful... but have some more questions for you if possible.
I just got my HF G25 today.
It seem it's not possible to use the zoom and focusing with the ring at the same time. I'm I doing something wrong, or it's just not possible....
And the photo button on the LCD...i guess you didn't find a way to get rid of it or reassign to something else...just wondering
